Spanish club, Almeria, are considering the services of Golden Eaglets forward, Edafe Egbedi.

The Primeira Liga outfit have made enquiries about the player and are prepared to give him the opportunity to prove himself with a trial.

According to Egbedi's manager, Kiitan Olateru-Olagbegi, the European club were impressed with the performance of the youngster, who helped the Eaglets to get the silver cup at the Nigeria 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup.

"We were contacted by a representative of Almeria. They told us they like him (Egbedi) but they will want him to have trials with them in Spain in order to monitor him closely before deciding whether to sign him," says Olateru-Olagbegi who manages the Lagos-based Clique Sports Academy, where Egbedi was invited for the cadet World Cup.

"We are still in the process of seeing how the trial works out but there are formalities to go through before that is done. We are happy that Edafe's performance in the World Cup is beginning to attract interest from Europe but the important thing that will be taken into consideration in the end is that he will only move to where he would have the chance to develop better as a footballer," said Egbedi's manager.

Egbedi netted three times as he featured in all the seven games the Eaglets played en route their runners up finish in the U-17 World Cup. He came on as a 57thminute substitute in Nigeria's opening game against Germany and scored four minutes later to equalise with the Germans in their dramatic comeback against the European champions.

His second half performance convinced the Eaglets coach, John Obuh to hand him a starting place in the rest of the team's six games and Egbedi struck twice against New Zealand to help his side to a 5-0 triumph that qualified them for the quarter finals.

Almeria already has Super Eagles midfielder, Kalu Uche, who joined them from the Poland side, Wisla Krakow in 2005. Uche has made over 100 appearances for the Spanish club.

Let's hope he is how old he says he is and he is not at the height of his talent. We remember very well many "youngsters" who were signed by european clubs but did not pan out.Good luck to him though

I hope they'll find out his real age so they know what they're getting into!

Egbedi is a good player and he proved that at the just concluded U-17 world cup. Before he is signed by Almeria, if the deal materialize, his agent must be concern about the player's future and not filling his pocket.

The sought of cynicism often displayed by some of the contributors to Next stories are the kind that destroys a nation!

Yes he proved to be one of the best among his peers. It's good for him and his family. However, his manager must carefully ensure the boy does not fall into the wrong hands due to the enticing name of "europe" in soccer.
