The Nigeria Football Federation has confirmed that Shaibu Amodu will lead the Super Eagles to both the African Cup of Nations and the FIFA World Cup next year after getting the nod of the executive committee.

The committee which met Wednesday afternoon announced through a communiqué signed by Shehu Adamu, chairman of the Communiqué Drafting Committee, that it has ratified the recommendation made by the technical sub-committee on Tuesday.

The communiqué

“The (Executive) Committee also unanimously adopted the position of its technical sub-committee and the Coaches Association of Nigeria, which on Tuesday, 24th November, 2009 recommended that Members of the Super Eagles’ technical crew should be kept in their post for the African Nations Cup Angola 2010 and FIFA World Cup South Africa 2010,” read the communiqué in part.

“Equally, the camping of the Super Eagles in Namibia has been approved, to start from 28th December, 2009.” The declaration finally ended speculations surrounding the future of the Eagles coach who has faced criticisms over his competence despite guiding the national team to World Cup qualification with nine wins and three draws in 12 matches.

Though the Presidential Task Force which was put in place by the Presidency to support Amodu in his World Cup qualification task believes the Eagles need a stronger technical leadership, the football federation had backed the former Orlando Pirates of South Africa coach all the way.

Other coaches that have been linked with the Eagles job amidst calls for a foreign coach include Russia coach Guus Hiddink, his Ireland counterpart, Geovanni Trapatoni and lately, Ruud Gullit. But Amodu will now heave a sigh of relief after being told his job is safe, by his employers.

Other appointments

The football federation also approved the appointment of John Obuh as the new Flying Eagles coach after leading the Golden Eaglets to runners up finish at the just ended FIFA U-17 World Cup hosted on home soil. His assistant Monday Odigie has been given the task of unravelling the next set of U-17 nation team as the federation plans to embark on early preparations for our country’s international engagements.

Obuh will be assisted by Abimbola Samuel and Suleiman Shuaibu Former women national team coach Uche Eucharia was reappointed as the Falcons coach (to be assisted by Bala Nikyu, Gidado Abubakar and Ann Chiejine) while coaches of the junior women teams were also revealed.

Edat Agat was named Head Coach of the women’s U-20 team (to be assisted by Wemimo Oni Olanrewaju, Christopher Alor and Florence Omagbemi) while Peter Dedevbo was appointed as Head Coach of the U-17 girls’ team (to be assisted by Justine Madugu and Babatunde Sikiru Odubola and one other to be decided in a few days).

It's a shame cause other sports don't get any support.

@Ngozi Ada - There is no shame because football administration is what is being discussed here and the responsibility falls solely on the shoulders of Nigeria Football Federation. It would have been a shame or if you like, you may cry foul if it were to be Nigerian Sport Commission that is being discussed.

What happens to Samson Siasa? Must we continue to cruxify someone simply because he fails for once?

Wetin concern other sports for NFF matter? Football is Football and other sport is other sport. Congrats Amodu.....you deserve to reap where you sow...not oyibo man

If Amodu believes that the NFF has all the powers to appoint, and/ or support him all they way, then he is as deficient in memory as he is in the techniques of coaching. If the NFF does not sack him even while at the Nations Cup in Angola because the Eagles will perform so poorly. If today the President says he wants a foreign coach who in that so called Glass House will do otherwise, that said, who can talk to the president and get result between the President of the NFF and the Chairman of the PTF?, so what are we talking about?

I am not in support of Amodu, but i guess this was a good decision, I am happy that they are looking ahead, but I suggest that Amodu's assistants should be named as well and he be given extra push either by the NFF or from somewhere to be able to put his team together more effectively becos the teams he has coached now and before always lacked team play, beautiful football, mental and physical awareness (alertness).

All I have you say is good luck to Nigeria players and the coach. Please for Christ sake, Nigerian should lean how to support their players and coach not when they are wining, they are the best but if the lose one match they nothing b4 anybody. These habit is not good at all. We therefore repent. Both the coach and players I wish you best of luck. God bless all of you.

i think that nfa should be ashamed of their self if not for anything but for the fact that all of this people the board and the so called amodu, are all a mysterious vampires sucking the success of our dearest prospect towards sport. come to think of it the Mr blind amodu is not the problem the stupid supper eagles is having, the real problems lies and comes from the moral and in moral sins which our leaders commits day and night, not until they are fully repented i for one do not think that the Nigeria supper eagles will not be fruitful. sorry to say that is the fact just thing about it.

To Semiu my boy (and his editors at Next): 'unravelling' does not mean 'to put together' as you have used it. Unravelling is the exact opposite, it means 'coming apart' or 'taking apart'. So maybe the word you were looking for was 'unveiling'.

Poor Nigerian Abeg change your name.

Oga Teacher (Marcus Knowallus) Unravelling can also be used in the content of the discussion, because its a "transitive and intransitive verb to meaning to make the complexities of something clear and understandable, or become clear and understandable." With that said, Nobody is answering question "What happened to Samson Siasia?" Did he commit the unforgivable sin? Nigerian born coaches should beware as it said in Yoruba "Pasan ti a fi naa iyale ohun be laaja fun Iyawo."

Posted by lekismile on Nov 26 2009

It's obvious a lot still has to be done on the team if we want to have a nice outing both in the nation's cup & worldcup, especially in the midfield & the defence.i wish the eagle all the best

Posted by TATA on Nov 26 2009

we go we lose or win...if we lose, we learn a lesson...give this guy half the money, you would pay to a foreign coach and watch him work wonders...

Posted by Chifire on Nov 28 2009

Hey, i new it will come to confussion.please i want nff to get this post because i have the answers to their long anbigous algebra. The answer is westerhof. He has the technicality and he is a tactician.

Posted by Yero on Dec 02 2009

The performance of the Super Eagles is based on the players' individual skills, not Amodu's technical depth. People call for Amodu's sack because he lacks technical depth. If the players are not good individually, people would have complained on them. But the complain is on Amodu. NFF should take note. If The NFF eventually sticks to Amodu, I wish Him all the Best.
