Though not seeded as one of the top countries in next year's Nations Cup in Angola, the Super Eagles of Nigeria moved up ten notches in the FIFA rankings released on Friday.

The Super Eagles are now ranked 22nd in the world, a position which takes them to third in Africa as Cameroon remains the continent's highest ranked team in eleventh position just below the world's top ten teams.

The display by the Elephants of Cote d' Ivoire in the just concluded World Cup qualifiers accounted for their movement three steps up the ladder to become the 16th best team in World and Africa's 2nd best.

The Mambas of Mozambique whose 1-0 victory over Tunisia aided Nigeria's World Cup dreams were also handed a massive 80 points thereby jumping 12 places to 72 in the world and 14th in Africa.

Ghana gained only 1 place and are 6th in Africa while Egypt's woes of missing out of the World Cup were compounded as they slipped down the ladder to 5th in Africa and 29th overall with Algeria taking its place At the top, Spain have overtaken Brazil to become the world's top-ranked team. Holland, Italy and Portugal complete the world's top 5.

Nice one but AFCON and eventually SOUTH AFRICA FIFA 2010 would confirm these ratings

Nigeria should always rank amongst the highest 3 in the world. American sports is dominated by her Black citizens, and I do not see why Nigeria with a population of over 130 Million should be rejoycing about 22nd place rank. SHAME! WHAT ARE YOUR SELF EXPECTATIONS NIGERIA? IS IT A CRIME TO SEEK TO BE NUMBER ONE? I am disgusted.

i pray the NFF will start now to prepare the supper eagles for the enermous task ahead, bcos it would be bad and shameful as we have been drawn along side mozambique to fumble again, despite thier effort to help us qualify, pls. we have to prove to the world that we actually deserve a place in south africa and in our recent ranking.

Ozymes, eni-osca, and mr sunnyside, MEDIOCRITY is EMBEDED in your souls, and while you call on God to help you, you MUST strive to help yourself Excel. Look into your souls and you see why Nigeria is a SORRY, FAILED STATE it is today. I still maintain that NIGERIA CAN DO BETTER, and her citizens MUST DEMAND the powers that be to do better. I bet you guys are living overseas; places where MEDIOCRITY is NOT acceptable, while GLORIFYING a 22nd place Ranking as great. A SMALL country somewhere would be proud of this ranking, but Africa's most populous Country? NOT ACCEPTABLE! That mentality of "I am not good enough" is the reason for Nigeria's SHAMELESS LAMENESS. I STILL do not see why the Eagles who played in the World Cup in the late 90S cannot make it a habit to put up the kind of game that made Nigerians proud against Italy, and a few others. NIGERIA, you can, and MUST do better. 22nd ranking for the Supereagles is UNACCEPTABLE.
