Bayelsa United won their first Premier League title on Sunday, following their 2-2 draw against Warri Wolves at the Oleh Stadium in Delta State.

It was the first time Wolves would drop points at home all-season.

The home side also had a goal that could have given them the victory disallowed late in the second half but a loss for Bayelsa would not have stopped them from winning their first domestic crown after their closest rivals Heartland were defeated by a lone goal by Niger Tornadoes at the MinnaTownship Stadium in Minna.

The result put Bayelsa on 70 points, three, ahead of the second-placed Naze Millionaires who finished with 67 points.

Meanwhile the quartet of Lobi Stars, JUTH, FC Abuja and Nasarawa United have been relegated.

Lobi Stars lost 1-0 to Ocean Boys in Ogharra to confirm their drop to the lower division while JUTH’s 2-0 Akwa United was not enough for them to escape relegation.

Nasarawa United whose relegation had already been confirmed before Sunday’s game failed to show up at Gateway and therefore suffered a walk-over while FC Abuja also lost 2-1 to Enyimba at the Old Parade ground in the Federal Capital Territory.

No one is just interested in this Nigeria football called mediocrity. An advise for FA, change the name from Premier League to a more ingenious one that suits us. Stop being a copy cat.
