The visiting FIFA security
team and members of the Local Organising Committee for the Under-17 World Cup
in October on Saturday visited Enugu to assess the facilities there.
The team, which is operating as Venue Assessment Security Team, comprises
representatives of Interpol, the CIA and the FBI.
The team, which was led by Tim Flynn, checked facilities at the Nike Lake
Resort and the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu.
John Atale, Head of Protocol
and leader of the Local Organising Committee unit on the visit, said the
security team was in Enugu to see the level of preparation for the
championship. He called for understanding by the media as the team would not be
available for interviews.
The team had visited Kano, Kaduna, Bauchi, Ijebu Ode, Calabar, Warri and Abuja
earlier.
FIFA's vice president Jack Warner and his team of inspectors are scheduled to
visit Enugu on Wednesday to assess the facilities.
