The Lagos State Boxing Hall of Fame says telecommunications company, Starcomms Nigeria Plc, is now co-sponsoring its monthly boxing programme, the Saturday Boxing Show. The body's chairman, Wale Edun, said this on Saturday after the fourth edition of the competition at the Mobolaji Johnson Sports Complex, Rowe Park, Yaba. Mr. Edun said the partnership with Starcomms would help the body to sustain the programme, organised by the Lagos State Amateur Boxing Association.
Mr. Edun, a former commissioner for finance in the state, promised that more corporate bodies will partner with them to give boxers at the grassroots the opportunity to showcase their talents.
"It is my joy to see these young people displaying their boxing skills," he said. "I believe that if this programme is continued, we will give them the opportunity to excel in life. The beauty of any grassroots programme is continuity and for us to discover talents we have to partner with corporate organisations."
Mr. Edun also said that the fifth edition in December will have boxers competing for the Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State boxing belt.
