Obuh blames goals on technical indiscipline

Head coach of Golden Eaglets, John Obuh, on Saturday in Abuja said his team conceded three goals from Germany because of lack of technical discipline.

Obuh made the disclosure to journalists at a post match briefing after Nigeria rose from three goals behind to draw 3-3 with Germany.

He praised the performance of his players but said they looked forward to having better results in their matches against Argentina and Honduras.

“We will improve. We will go back to the drawing board and see what we should do better in order to get to the next round of the game,” Obuh said.

He described the match against Germany as a difficult one for his team.

“We found it difficult to execute our plans in the last 25 minutes of the game.

“Because there were complaints of thigh weaknesses by the players, we resorted to a draw as against getting defeated while going for a fourth goal,” Obuh said.

The German side had stunned spectators at the sparsely-filled Abuja National Stadium by taking a lead which it failed to defend after it lost Robert Labus to a red card in the 53rd minute.

Nigeria will on Tuesday, October 27, play its next match against Honduras.

I suggest the technical crew look into creating different game plans immediately based on the opponents plan. If we did not close-up on the germans, we wouldnt have drawn. I would expect improvement on immediate game play change.

Rather disappointing to hear the crowd booing the players when they were down. These are youngsters playing in front of most probably the largest crowds of their careers and when they needed the support of the crowd the most, they were booed! It's bad enough booing the senior players, at least they have the experience to deal with that but 16 and 17 year olds? Some of the so called fans should be ashamed of themselves and I sincerely hope we do not see that type of behaviour ever again. That they managed to draw from three down with the crowd against them says a lot about their character. Let's stop this short sighted win at cost mentality and actually nurture and support our youth.

The Eaglets coach was completely bereft of technical ideas to counter the Germans; coming from behind to pull a draw wasn't a feat but rather a fluke. He should spare the boys the blames.

wen will all this make-up stories end?????????????

This is a good start but we need to support our players whether winning or losing. That will give them more encouragement to play better. As well the coach supposed to be commended for the draw with Germans.

Good comeback. The boys deserve commendation. They should be advised that unlike golf or tennis, FOOTBALL is a TEAM (Together Everyone Achieves More)game. If everyone is striving to be the goal scorer, they're not likely to go far. If they play as a team, and pass to the best positioned teammate, they have a good chance of winning and the scouts they often play to impress would have had a better chance of seeing them play in many matches thus improving their chances of further attention, test or trials. Nigerians have become so disillusioned they can't even stand up for their country as shamefully demonstrated by the deranged Nigerian 'supporters' of Germany. Pray there's no war between Nigeria and any country. Over to you Nigerian leaders or dealers.

The blame game is still alive and well in this country. Obuh is a leader and as such should accept responsibility for the success or failure of his team. If his boys lacked technical discipline, he should tell them in the dressing room or wherever. We are not the ones he should tell. Given that Obuh didn’t have too much with the squad before the World Cup started, he did have some time to draw up his strategies for the tournament, so he should be engaging in buck-passing. Given all that happened, the boys did try in the end. They may have been shell-shocked finding themselves three goals down but they showed so character drawing level. They need to hang in there, keep a level head and take each game at a time and not go thinking about defending any title.

Good comment Danladi, nothing should surprise us anymore about almighty Nigeria. Love the Nigerian leaders or dealers mention tho...lol. We should all be ashamed of where our country is after 49yrs of independence with all our rich natural and human resources.
