Nigerian Breweries chess championship set to begin

Over 500 players will partake when the 32nd Nigerian Breweries International Open Chess Championship gets underway today at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium, Lagos. The players are drawn from all the states of the federation.

For six days, they will display their prowess on the board; looking to unseat the current National Champion, Adegboyega Adebayo .

The championship, which is the major tournament of the Nigeria Chess Federation, has a total prize money of about N825, 000.

There will be competition in seven categories namely: the FIDE section, Opens one and two, Ladies section, U-14 Boys and Girls, Veterans section and the Sports Writers’ category.
