Battle of Eagles in Rades

Tunisia and Nigeria’s Super Eagles will on Saturday face off at the November 7 Stadium in Rades with the Carthage Eagles defending a 100 per cent record and a two-point advantage over Nigeria, courtesy of wins against Kenya and Mozambique.

And Humberto Coelho’s side will be hoping to establish an imposing lead in Group B at the end of proceedings on Saturday. But they will be up against a Super Eagles side whose confidence level continues to soar following recent victories against France and Kenya, the former in Saint Etienne.

There was, however, noticeable flaws in the Super Eagles’ defence and midfield in the 3-0 thumping of Kenya but the return to the team of Joseph Yobo and Mikel Obi should add greater resilience to these two key areas. Both players were ruled out of the Kenya tie after failing to turn up for the international friendly against France; a situation that led to the emergence of quite a handful of players for the Nigerian national team. And the team’s coach Shuaibu Amodu is really pleased with the development.

“The team is gradually forming itself,” said Amodu. “Players are beginning to gel and it is becoming highly competitive. The spirit of a good team is to be able to play anybody,” he had said.
