Eagles get three-day break for Tunisia tie

Print print Email email Share Share

The Super Eagles have been given a three-day recess ahead of their next qualifier against Tunisia, after their 3-0 victory over the Harambee Stars of Kenya at the Abuja National Stadium on Sunday.

The match against Kenya was the third in 10 days for the team, after their 1-1 draw with the Republic of Ireland at the Craven Cottage in London on May 29 and their lone-goal triumph over Les Bleus of France at St. Etienne on June 2.

And the Eagles coach, Shuaibu Amodu has asked his players to rest for three days before converging on Lagos for the build up to their next World Cup qualifier against the Carthage Eagles of Tunisia.

According to a statement released by the media officer of the Nigeria Football Federation, the team will leave the country's shores for Malta on Saturday to continue preparation for the crucial tie against Tunisia who are still leading the group with six points after Saturday's 2-0 win over Mozambique in Tunis.

Amodu is expected to name a 23-man squad that will make the trip to Malta from where the Eagles will proceed to Tunis on June 18.

The contingent will depart Nigeria aboard Lufthansa Airline aircraft on Saturday night and fly through Frankfurt, Germany to Malta, where the team will camp at the Corinthian Palace Hotel.

Nigeria must get at least a draw from the Tunisia game scheduled for the November 7 Stadium, Rades, to keep in step with their North African rivals.

I THINK THE IMPRESSION OF ACHIEVING ONLY A DRAW IN TUNIS IS NOT ENCOURAGING AND SHOULD NOT BE REGISTERED ON THE MINDS, THEY SHOULD GO ALL OUT FOR A WIN BEARING IN MIND THEY ARE GOING FOR A MUST-WIN -WAR, THAT WAY, THEY DO WELL. THE INJECTION OF EXPERIENCED PLAYERS IS ALSO ADVICED SINCE ON THE TUNISIAN SIDE, THERE ARE EXPERIENCED PLAYERS WHO CAN TURN THE TIDE OF EVENTS ESPECIALLY WHEN IT MATTERS MOST. I WILL BE PRAYING FOR THEM. UP SUPER EAGLES!!

I really don't think such impressiom of going for a draw should be created. All we need in Tunisia is a win to keep the dream of South Africa on. Nigeria can beat Tunisia come 20th. All we need is been agressive and not coming to dance on their shores. We need to tighten up our Midfield department, that's way we have been lacking. Inclusion of the right players with the passion to win and not strolling on the pitch will earn us three points in Tunis. We don't need players that often times stroll on the pitch, killing the moral of the Game. Tunisia has 6 points and Nigeria has only 4 points. A draw will give them 7 points whlie 5 for Nigeria and in that way, we will be left with nothing than praying for Mozambique or Kenya to qualify for us by beating Tunisia for us. we don't need any country's grace to qualify. All we need is play agressively and beat Tunisia home and away to get the maximm chances for the world cup billed in S/Africa.

i think Mikel should used in place of Olafinjana for Tunisia.

It is a good idea for a draw at Tunis but it is a risky game. I will urge the Super Eagles to go for a win if they want to qualify for the World Cup in South Africa. They can do it. Ghana went to Mali and beat mali 2-0, it is also an achievable result to us to go to Tunis and beat Tunisians 2-0. God bless Super Eagles and Nigerians and my prayer is for a win precisely 2-0 in favor of Nigerian.

kids...u have only one workhorse in the nigerian midfield...sanni kaita...u don't field him, u lose... any average midfielder can make a sensible pass when the ball is at his feet...the problem is when he does not have the ball

It's not by chance that Tunisia has 6 points, but comes June 20, the Nigerian players will be full of themselves if they think they can easily win. Well at least I personally think that they are full of themselves. Go Tunisia.

No long thing. Nigeria will win in Tunis by HIS Grace.

Three days off, that is cool, but the job at hand demands total commitment and that it must receive. Everyone in camp must be up an doing and should ensure they make the country very proud.... Hub

They should go there and tell whole word that their rating in 1994 was not joke.one love super eagle.

Though super eagle have done their best for now but there game against Tunisha is crusial. They should go for wining if actually they want to be on the safe side. Amodu selection may be okay but the droping of Chidi Odia is costly as the team need experience player for a side like Tunisha National team. The are matches for boy and matches for men. So Amudu should think twice when droping a key player unles the player is not fit for the match. Thank you.

truth is to keep our hopes of making it to the next world cup mundial, nothing short of a win not just in the game against Tunisia, but in all our games would not be acceptable. Amodu should stop trying to be too careful and take steps that need to be taken. Nigerians will not forgive him if we do not make it to SA 2010
