Corpsology: Umaru's gift to the modern world

Print print Email email Share Share

A new form of government is slowly being introduced to the world by the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. The test run for this new, innovative and unique system of government was launched from a sick bed in a Saudi Arabian hospital two months ago, by Nigeria's ailing President Umaru Musa Yar'adua. He will soon establish it and make it fully operational when he returns to Nigeria and his newly built, designer and specialist ground floor hospital bed (with state of the art and modern life saving and sustaining machines) in the Aso Rock Presidential Villa, Abuja.

This system of government is called "corpsology" and it allows for the country to be ruled by a leader who is on a life support machine, who is in a coma, who is permanently on a kidney dialysis machine or who is suffering from dementia and chronic heart and liver failure.

Under this new system of government the leader does not ever have to leave his bed, he does not have to speak to his people, he does not have to sign or approve any memos or treaties, he does not have to abide by the constitution, he does not have to lead the military, he does not have to give day to day directives on the economy, foreign policy and the running of his government and he does not have to see or be seen by his ministers and staff, let alone the Nigerian people that he is leading.

All he has to do to sustain his mandate and to continue to legitimately and lawfully lead the country is to ensure that he maintains a weak pulse whilst he is in his vegetative state and to ensure that his wife indulges in the deepest form of black magic, necromancy and copious praying on his behalf daily. As long as he is still breathing and even if he is not conscious, he can continue to rule and lead the people even where he is physically and mentally unfit to do so. And just in case he ever feels like speaking to the people, a faint one-minute drawl, preferably in his native language, is all that is required of him. And even that can be to the BBC Hausa service and certainly not to any Nigerian media house or medium.

In the event of war being declared on the country there is no cause for alarm because under this system his wife will have the sole responsibility and exclusive right to command the Nigerian army, lead them into battle and defend our sovereignty and territorial integrity. And whilst she is doing that his ever faithful ministers can handle the onerous and all important task of receiving and making tea for the president's numerous mallams, prayer warriors and mourners in the Presidential Villa and they will also be charged with the additional and vital responsibility of changing Mr. President's diapers everyday, washing him and supervising the changing of his bed sheets and the cleaning of his bedroom at least once every 3 hours.

As for running the government, that will be left in the able hands of a tiny cabal of provincial villagers, family members and Special Advisors who had never travelled out of Katsina state, let alone Nigeria, before 2007. And the best part of it all is this: there is absolutely no role to play or any need for a vice president under this new system because once the president dies completely, his wife will automatically take over and assume full power.

Is this not a great achievement: our very own version of democracy? I am so proud to be a Nigerian today. And instead of wasting our time complaining we should just keep quiet and pray for our president to get better and return from the land of the dead after all anyone can fall sick at any time and all that is happening to us as a nation today is simply the "will of God".

That is how God wants it so who are we to question or resist His will? This is our own form of democracy and all true patriots should just accept it. In any case this new system of government quite apart from showing the world how brilliant and innovative we are as a people, really does provide great hope for the future of our country.

Someone should go and tell President Obama that Nigeria has now come of age and that he is not the only one that has brought the concept of "change that we can believe in" and popularised the expression, "yes we can," to the world of politics and governance. Nigeria's version of "yes we can" is known as "corpsology" and this can be accurately defined as "the rulership of the living by the dead".

This is Nigeria's own unique contribution to the world of global politics and the historical debate about competing systems of governance in today's unipolar world.

You mean, CORPSOCRACY? LOL. Northern Nigeria's gift to the Nation.

Posted by Pathfinder on Jan 31 2010

It's amazing who FFK thinks he is. He was an attacking dog of ex president Obasanjo. He attacked everyone I could think of - Prof. Wole Soyinka, VP Atiku Abubakar, etc. He was part of the decision to impose UMYA on Nigeria. So CORPSOLOGY or CORPSOCRACY, is the gift the OBJ, FFK and their team gave to Nigeria. FFK, you cannot exonerate yourself

Posted by Roz Ben-Okagbue on Jan 31 2010

Brilliant article and very well written. He who has ears let him hear!.... @Pathfinder...it is irrelevant what anyone thinks of FFK, he is not the issue. We need to focus on the way forward. The main issues are outlined in the article above. What is the relevance of who FFK attacked when he was in govt?...will that rescue us from our current predicament? There is a clear message in this article and we should try and grasp it.

Posted by Riot5000 on Jan 31 2010

WHAT IS MY BROTHER WEARING ON HIS HEAD IN THIS PICTURE, A BLONDE RUG? A Black, non grey, Blonde Man? LOL Nigeria, PLEASE, lose the COLONIAL and SLAVE Mentality already.

Posted by NaSo on Jan 31 2010

Its amazing that when you guys (FFK and other "ment in power") are not blinded by money you seem logical and rational.... Imagine even IBB was calling for de-centralisation and true federalism in a speech he gave a few months ago I bet we will hear something similar sensible from the likes of Turai, Taminu Kurfi, Abba Guma & co, when they are no longer in power and not choping..... and the next government is screwing up too.

Posted by @Pathfinder on Jan 31 2010

Sorry but in this instance I choose to follow the 'liquid contents only' order! Are we not in a CORPSOCRACY now? I wish that UMYA dies quickly so that life can go on, without us being saddled with a dead or near-dead katsina man. Yes, i wish him a quick and painless death, it is more generous that what he aided with his wife and kinsmen are wishing 150million people!

There was a time that Senator Francis Nzeribe (where is he?) during OBJ regime was writing articles and sending it to the press from time to time. Reuben Abati then jokingly suggested that Nzeribe should become a weekly columnist. This is what is happening now. We had and still have El-Rufai, now we have FFK. Who is next? That said I like this article. The only thing is that I am not happy with the messenger. And I hope everyone will respect my wishes?

Posted by Emmanuel Ajibulu on Jan 31 2010

Chief Fani Kayode I love this indeed, you an inspiration to us all, the Nigerian youths. The good legacies and virtues you left behind for us are still yielding fruitful unimaginable results. Meanwhile, I will have to say a big thank you to Next Newspaper for giving you voice in thier esteemed media in register your popular opinion in the public domain. ''Corpsology'' indeed....

Posted by Bunmi Zoe on Jan 31 2010

We refuse this ''gift'' as Nigerians deserve better. If UMYA was conscious enough to sign the s budget, then he shld sign his resignation asap as well. @Pathfinder...Even if UMYA was imposed, did that prevent him from being sane to do the right thing by the nation? Hope u've read Roz's comment?

Posted by Commonman on Jan 31 2010

This is a case where the message has the putrid odour of the messenger. Fani-Kayode was the Aondoakaa of Obasanjo insulting everybody and parrotly amplifying all the droppings from OBJ's rotten mouth. Now, he is lampooning Yar Adua. I no blame am. OBJ opened the way last week, and this drug sated idle mind comes spitting at Yar Adua. IN FACT, THE CURSES OF THOSE MEN YOU INSULTED ARE CATCHING UP WITH YOU. Idiot!

Posted by papaproject on Jan 31 2010

Has anyone noticed that our dear Minister for (dis)information and rebranding has been noticably quiet the past few weeks? Dora o dora...where art thou?. Are you busy counting your "security vote"(allegedly of course)? Shameless woman.....and the rest of the irresponsible executive council. How dare you subject this once great country to this? Do they not get it that we have had enough? The day of reckoning is near!!!!!!!

Posted by joe blog on Jan 31 2010

this is brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. No one could have put it better. I am v impressed and I wish that more Nigerian politicians and former Ministers had the courage to speak out against this evil. Those that say they do not like ffk because of his role in oBJ'S govt are missing the point-it is the message that he is conveying in this piece that is relevant and not OBJ or FFK'S role in that govt.. Most people in the ruling class are still collaborating with Yaradua's evil. We need to encourage and commend those amongst them like FFK that have come out at great risk to their life and liberty to speak out against evil like this. It is people like this and OBJ'S GROUP that Yaradua and his cabal really fear and not people like u and I. FFK has done well and no matter what this govt is putting him through, they obviously cannot silence him. He is my hero.

Posted by wikiman on Jan 31 2010

commonman, ur comments are a disgrace and u do not make any sense. What OBJ and FFK and co are doing now is v damaging to Yaradua and will eventually bring him down. They represent a massive constituency within the pdp and the political class and it is clear that they are now tightening the noose slowly but surely around the Yaradua government's neck. These are the people that can make a difference and not people that are so bitter and blinded by pettiness and hatred like Commonman.Well done Next for this piece and well done FFK for writing it. Commonman the man is blessed with courage and strength and certainly not cursed. Pl focus on the message and not the messanger and God can use anyone at any time for anything. He is using FFK now to say and do the right thing and stand up against this wicked govt that wants to enslave us all. PL LEARN MORE MANNERS AND BE MORE RESPECTFUL AND GRATEFUL THAT WE HAVE SUCH STRONG FIGHTERS WHO ARE,FOR ONCE, ON THE SIDE OF THE PEOPLE.

Posted by TOMTOM on Jan 31 2010

The more big and powerful men that speak out against this evil of Turai and Umaru the better. OBJ'S toughest boys, Nuhu Ribadu, Nasir El Rufai and Femi Fani-Kayode are giving this govt hell. LOL....thank God for that. I am praying for them.

Posted by abemuy on Jan 31 2010

Good piece,i agree. One that smacks of sarcasm(quite naturally). But this reminds me of FFK and his articles(based on sarcasm) before OBJ eventually noticed him and called him to the table.Just wondering if FFK is aiming anoda shot @ aso rock. You will wonder who the target is (umaru or goodluck). The point is people like OBJ and FFK need to be reminded that they have not fared better.

WHOever can argue with the facts of corpsology...let him be called a liar. If you are simply outraged by the messenger - get over it! we should celebrate our brightese and best and not denigrate them. Why are our people so bitter and myopic and why do they always have to impute the worse motives to others. this man is risking his life by writing like this and unlike Ribadu, El-Rufai and many others that have fled Nigeria as a result of Yaradua's persecution and demonisation of theOBJ boys,he has not run but has chosen to remain in Nigeria and to stand and fight. It takes a real leader and a man of courage to do that. I do not care about the fact that he once spoke for OBJ because he was just doing his job.I rather remember him for saving the lives of many Nigerians when he went to the Ministry of Aviation as Minister AND STOPPED PLANES FROM CRASHING.He did a great job there and he reformed the whole place. Yet the Yaradua govt has tried from day one to do nothing but persecute him and all of the other OBJ boys, like El-Rufai and Ribadu, by fabricating lies and accusing them of stealing and corruption in order to just keep them quiet and silence them. Kudos must go to FFK for coming out in such a powerful way like this and shame on those that are suggestig here that he has ulterior motives. If this were any other country people would be commending such a brilliant, young, dynamic and courageous mind who has boldly come out to confront the ultimate evil on behalf of his people. FFK is like the David of the bible-he cannot be helddown for long and am v happythat he is fighting back and letting his voice be heard. He is a source of pride to many Nigerians and there is not one officialor minister in Yaraduas rotten govt that can stand against him in a debate. We complain when our leaders are silent when they see injustice and tyranny being unleashed on us by govt yet when some of them come out to condemn and expose the same evil govt in a brilliant, unique and effective way as FFK has done here we do not encourage but we rather condemn him. What type of strange people are we? Well done FFK and pl keep it up. We need young and strong leaders and voices like urs to be heard and to lead this nation. Thank u Next newspaper for publishing this and for bringing us hope.

FFK has hit them hard and done v well. This is brilliant. One thing about this man is that he always says what he means and he always means what he says. He is also v consistent, insightful and tough....a real no nonsense man. I remember the brilliant articles he used to write against the Abacha govt when he was living in exile in Ghana and also his gallant stand over the annulement of the June 12th election of Abiola. He also has attacked the calipate and the hegemonists of northern Nigeria over the years more than any other young politician from the south. He has written columns and some of the most brilliant articles for many newspapers in the last 20 years and they are always ful of passion and power. His article here has proved that he is still on the side of the people and I am encouraged by it. He has exposed what Turai and Umaru are trying to do to this country and if Nigerians are smart they better take a cue from there and fight for their rights.FFK stll has amajor roleto play in the affairs of this country and I believe that we should pray for him and others like him everyday. Nigeria needs such men to deliver her.

Posted by John on Feb 01 2010

Very good piece.I just cant stop reading it over and over again. This man is brilliant and Nigeria needs him to save us from Turai and co.. It is common knowledge that he, El-Rufai, Ribadu,Uba Sanni,Lawal Batagarawa and a few others in OBJ's inner caucus opposed the choice of Yaradua from the start and they told OBJ that apart from being physically and mentally sick that the man was a tyrant who could only be controlled by his wife Turai. OBJ refused to listen to them and instead told Yaradua their views about him. That is when the President decided that he must persecute and jail this entire group and he has been using the security agencies to torment and harass them ever since.

Posted by messanger on Feb 01 2010

May God bless and protect Fani for this article. He could just have kept quiet and sat on the fence like 90 per cent of the other leaders in this country. May God help us and save Nigeria from the Yaradua's.

Fear of loosing daily bread. OBJ wants to remain relevant in politics thats why he always handover to weak people. He did it 1979, Soldiers take over from the weakling he repeats it again 2007. The God He swearing with will soon catct up with Him. FFK keep on druming it, the reality will soon show itself

On the message, I think it should be indoctrinated into the history books. We could vote for the word to get into OED (Oxford English Dictionary) as "the rulership of the living by the dead". At least it has been in existence for well over two months. Though I seem to like the word "Corpsocracy". On FFK as a person, why is everyone indicting him?

Posted by moranti dada on Feb 01 2010

Gbabe Ketu, u are the one with amnesia...go and do ur home work please and go and ask ur elders. When this man was min.of aviation he put more of ur useless ife people into the aviation parastatals and gave them jobs more than any other seving minister from Osun state in the history of Nigeria. That is why he is so close to the ooni till today. He also helped many from Osun stsata and also gave them jobs to the extent that the Senate Commitee on Aviation accused him of favouring and being too partial to the Yorubas and particularly to osun state indigenees and ife.He argued that it was because they were better qualified than most and he only wanted the best. Now u an ife is asking what he did for the ifes. No wqonder u are so backward and u never seem to do well. U dont even appreciate a good thing when u have one. It is people like Omisore thart u like because he gives u chicken change. Fani-Kayode is a pride to many of us in the south west and Nigeria so u can go and sit down. Can anyone stand up to the north the way he does? And u are complaining. Anyway who is talking about ur Ife here? We are talking about the presidency and the future of our nation here and u are talking about ife...please grow up. Fani-Kayode has done v well by speaking against evil and he did v well when he was in govt.. It is only we yorubas that like to demean and destroy our own and it is usually out of envy and frustration. Ur cynicism and attitude is reflective of that sickness.

Posted by rotimi on Feb 01 2010

Fani Power....like father ,like son. His father was one of the greatest Nigerian lawyers and politicians that ever lived and a great son of ife. He even moved the motion for Nigeria's independence successfully in 1958-pl check Richard Sklar's book titled Emergent African Powers,Nigeria's Political Parties In the 50's and 60's or read Hansard or Professor Onabamiro's book titled if u dispute this. Fani jnr was a minister just like his father was in the first republic when he was Minister for Local Govt Affairs and also Deputy Premier of Western Region too. In fact it was Femi's father that liberated the ifes from feudalism and tyranny from the former Onni of Ife by fighting for the poor people there to benefit from the royalties from the forests around ife which up till that time only the king was benefiting from. Femi is only follwing his father's footsteps and I am v proud of him. This satire is better than any that I have seen written by any Nigerian politician. I am not surprised because Femi was at Cambridge university just like his father. He is one of our brightest and best.

Posted by rover on Feb 01 2010

Mustach, that is wishful thinking on your part and on the part of Yaradua and his gestapo and seletive efcc. I have been following that case closely and there is no case against him at all. In fact not even a penny went missing under his watch which is why efcc had to drop initial charges about aviation intervention fund against him. The other charges are rubbish-just political persecution and u are the only one in N igeria that doesn't know that. That is why efcc keep losing against him and are now on appeal. When Yaradua is dead the case will be withdrawn becos it was Yaradua that insisted that all of OBJ'S boys should be charged and prosecuted on trumped up charges, including El Rufai, Ribadu and oters. And if ur Yaradua lives the courts will clear Fani-kayode. By the way there was no allegation of fraud against him or theft. Rather efcc is claiming that he was laundering his own money and money that he had in his account long before he even became a minister or before he went into govt.. When Yaradua dies it is Aondukka and Faride Waziri that will be arrested, charged and sent to jail for doing his dirty work and persecuting innocent people. Just wait and see.

Abemuy, many of us noticed ffk before obj did and he did not need obj but rather obj needed him. FFK has paid his dues and does not need to make any noise to get attention. He has been writing and commenting and playing politics for many years and was even born into it. How I wish we had more politicians with his good breeding, his courage, his education and his eloquence. When he was attacking Abacha and Babangida and fighting for june12th was he looking for a job or to be noticed then? Pl stop being myopic and stop judging people by ur own petty standards. This is a great man and we should be commending his courage for doing the right thing and supporting the fight agaist this sick Fulani man and his wife who wants to turn Nigeria into an annex of Saudi Arabia. Thank God for Fani.

U are right that these words should be recorded in the Oxford dictionary etc and the terms were created, defined and established by a Nigerian. I am v proud of that and will tell all my English friends. The reason why so many indict and say so many negative things about FFK is one thing and one thing only....envy. As a democrat, Fani-Kayode has the inalienable right to contribute to any discussion in Nigeria and about Nigeria. It is a good copy, no doubt, but the amazing thing is the volte face of the author. I can not recall the author apologising to the patriot, our Wole Soyinka, whom he viciously vilified when 'KOGI' attempted what he is doing here to his former boss OBJ. One must commend NEXT for the photograph of Femi Fani-Kayode that accompanied the story! He is in court to explain the sudden wealth he deposited in a bank, when it is obvious that the credible source of that money is our patrimony. This is a big lesson for all power is transient and the likes of FFF may have all the good intentions in this world, he chose to mark his name indelibly as a thief and a profound lesson in ignoble servitude. @Roz Ben-Okagbue: One of Nigeria's major problem is amnesia; real or contrived. FFF maybe your good friend, the Nigerian Constitution permits freedom of association, but he was a fiend to Nigerians by his conduct and actions. He can do well to work behind the scene, since he knows the mind of PDP rather start a pedestrian move at image laundry. How time changes!!

Posted by Bruce UGIOMOH on Feb 01 2010

That Corpsology...is a brilliant article is not in doubt. That is beside the point, the question I have for Femi Fani-Kayode is this: What would have been your reaction if you were a member of this Government given your antecedents? For the benefit of hindsight, would you lash out to senior citizens like Wole Soyinka the way yo did then? I believe you should go back to equity before this born again scheme.

Posted by Nike ao on Feb 01 2010

Very good piece by Mr. Femi Fanikayode! But having said that, Nigeria only moved away from Abusology or Abuseocracy under President Obasanjo( of which Mr Fani Kayode, was a front running flag carrier) to the 'logical terminus'- Corpsology or Corpsocracy. Both forms of Government are anti- people and should never be condoned by right-thinking people anywhere!

labalaba, IT IS NOT FOR U TO LECTURE OTHERS AND TELL THEM WHAT TO THINK. U MAY HAVE UR OPINION AND OTHERS HAVE THEIRS SO WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL? AND UR COMMENT ABOUT THE PIC IS SO PETTY. THE CONSTITUTION OF THIS COUNTRY SAYS THAT A MAN IS INNOCENT UNTIL HE IS PROVEN GUILTY SO U HAVE NO RIGHT TO ACT AS IF HE HAS DONE ANYTHING WRONG HERE. WHAT DO U KNOW? AFTER ALL HE COULD HAVE RUN AWAY LIKE SO MANY OTHERS BUT HE CHOSE TO STAY AND CLEAR HIS NAME. AND THEN U GLIBLY SIT THERE AND CALL HIM A THIEF WHEN NO COURT HAS PRONOUNCED HIM AS ONE AND NEITHR WILL THEY EVER DO SO. by that token i suppose el rufai, ribadu and every other person that this useless govt has accused is also a thief just because Yaradua and Farida say so. Thank God we have courts because by the time the courts have finished and they are found innocent that is when glib and self righteous idiots like u will be put to shame and silenced for ever. And what are u talking about when u say sudden wealth? The Fani-Kayodes have been amongst the richest families in Nigeria for almost 3 generations or are u going to accuse the father and grandfather, who were both lawyers and politicians as well, of being thieves too? Pl do ur home work and try to separate the wheat from the chaff. Fnally u talk about apologising to Soyinka. Why the hell should he do so? Is Soyinka ur god? If he is he is certainly not mine and he too has attacked and abused many in his lifetime and so what? Did Soyinka apologise to OBJ after dbusing him before FFK hit back? And who appointed u as Soyinka's spokesman here anyway, certainly not him because he and FFK are quite close and have been from the NADECO days pobably before u were born. Roz is cmplely right and u would do well to learn from her and others hare. If u cant be decent and civil then pl keep ur opinion to urself and dont infect this place with ur toxic spirit. I would also urge u to try to achieve something in life urself rather than sitting there passing judgement on and condemning those that are making a positive contribution to their country and it's future. FFK has said and done the right thing here and I commend him. Secondly his tenure as a double minister are exemplary. Ur hatred for him which is borne out of nothing but envy has damaged ur ability to reason in a rational way. Pl stop trying to divert attention and make him FFK issue. The issue here is the wicked intentions of Yaradua and his wife for our country and not what u think of the messanger. It is only in Nigeria that people expect their leaders to be angels.

Bruce, if u knew anything about Fani-Kayode u would know that he would never have gone so low as to serve Yaradua's government. He was amongst those that opposed Yaradua's emergence and he and his group told obj that all this would happen and that Yaradua was sick and incompetent. And since when has it been a crime to disagree or publically join issues with Soyinka. Isnt that what democracy is all about? pl grow up and talk sense.

Nike, u must vbe suffering freom some form of mental illness if u think that u can compare the booming days of OBJ when things were moving and the country was alive to the rubbish what we have today. Even if u didnt like OBJ at least u could feel the impact of his government and he had brilliant ministers including ffk. PL don\t attempt to belittle or play this corpsology thing down...it is a v real problem and we need to fight it. OBJ, FFK have all had their time and gone. Todays challenge is posed by an evil, paranoid, abusive and vicious government which is lead by the wife of a mentally deranged and physically sick mam who has refused to hand over power to his vnumber 2 just because they beliueve that power should remain in the south at all costs. We have much bigger problems than what u or I think of FFK OR OBJ now. I would suggest that we channel ouyr energies into solving that problem by joining hands with people like ffk and others who have cultivated the courage to stand with the people.

Labalaba, u really are such a nasty piece of work arn't u? I am sure that u attempted to make a job application to FFK before and u probably were not allowed in at the gate. And by the way it is not for FFK to explain any money in his account or what u have called sudden wealth. It is for the efcc to prove that that money was stolen and was then put into the account. Given the fact that a man cannot steal his own money which had even been put in his account before he even joined OBJ'S govt, that would be next to impossible. It is gullible and partial little monkeys like u that make it so easy for abusive governments like the one we have today to persecute innocent men and abuse power. If el rufai or Ribadu had been caught and had not fled and if they were arrested I wonder if u would be saying the same thing. And why on earth should a high level politician and public figure likk=e ffk quietly be playing his role behind the scene or in the pdp and helping from there? Do u really think that any struggle can succeede in Nigeria or anywhere without key members of the ruling class being active in it and leading it? Do u think that ur protests on the internet or marches and demonstrations worry this govenment? Certainly not and if u dont know that u know nothing. The truth is that the likes of u are nothing in the scheme of things and u need heavyweights in the ruling class and the ruling political party to break ranks with the leadership, speak against it loudly and openly and then pull it down. It is the Fani-Kayodes of this world and OBJ and others that can do this and not even ur Falanas and Soyinkas who just make noise. It is therefore people like u that should work behind the scenes and take a back seat whilst the big boys and big guns like FFK and others come out to lead this struggle against tyranny. They can make a real difference but sadly u cannot. Other than talk u cannot do anything because u have no followership anywhere.

Fani-Kayode wishing Yar'Adua dead? That is sad really. No sane person is in support of what Yar'Adua and his cohorts are doing. But we must know where to draw the line and make responsible statements on sensitive issues. Where is that decency in you Mr bulldog. I am highly dissapointed in Fani-Kayode for writing such a distasteful article. "He that lives in glass house does not throw stones". You are part of the system that produced Yar'Adua for Nigeria. Whose bidding are you doing now? Well, no need to ask - OBJ of course. This is not going to make your case before EFCC to go away. A leader or prospective leader must be mindful of his / her utterances. Well, I do not blame you, we know your dad was also like that - all big mouth, but a coward. Take note, a wind is going to blow soon that would blow all corrupt leaders and sycophants like you away. The Tsunami is gathering strength and you are not going to be spared. When writing about Turai taking over, did you become an Adviser and later "Ole" Minister to OBJ based on merit? NO. It was because of your dad. We 'common' Nigerians are tired of recycling the same old cabal who have destroyed our nation. If you have nothing constructive to say, keep your mouth shut.

It is completely irrelevant whether FFK is my friend or not (I am entitled to be friends with whomsoever I please), whether you like him or think he is a fiend or whether he was OBJ's right hand man or not. We appear to have spent more time trying to determine whether FFK is a good or bad guy when that is not really the issue. We should be debating and exchanging ideas on the issues raised in this (I repeat) brilliant article and suggesting ways forward to rescue our country from the cabal holding all of us hostage. Your views on FFK can be aired and debated if and when the issue arises and then I am sure u will have much to say but right now it really does not matter!

FFK HAS MADE HIS CONTRIBUTION TO THE STRUGGLE AND EXPOSED THE EVIL IN THESE PEOPLE BUT WHAT CONTRIBUTION HAVE THOSE THAT ARE ABUSING HIM HERE MADE? And he is completely right. How can u be such a fickled minded, sick person? Gosh! there are no words to describe ur madness! Thank you Femi for your write up. You used the best word for this style of government - CORPSOLOGY. The world is already loosing hope in Nigeria as a country, our father land. This is an ABORMINATION in the making. Where is the Vice President, the Senators, the House of Rep., etc. In Ibo it is said that an adult does not stay at home while a goat delivers in chain. Come to think of it, who is the presidents' wife? Who gave her the power to take over the Fed. Gov.? In short, I don't get it. In medical term we call this man's condition a VEGETATIVE STATE. He is not coming back. However, I wish him a quick recovery.

yaradua and turai are agents of the devil. They want to turn Nigeria into extension of Saudi Arabia. They are dead people with a dead god. We must rise up and cut the north west zone out of Nigeria before it is too late. No to sharia and no to corpsology. The Fulani's are the tutsis of Nigeria like Uncle Bola Ige said. All they do is bring shame and misery. Why should they always want power. They are weak, lazy and incompetent and it is time for us all to resist them. Good write up FFK.

You guys are a very funny lot. You are happy to discuss personalities like FFK but ignore discussing important issues that affect your lives and the future of your children. These issues are crying out for discussion in Zahra Mohammed, Amma Ogan etc columns. Ignore contested personalities and discuss real issues that affect your lives.

Posted by Ayo on Feb 02 2010

Actually, I disagree with most people in that this was not a very well written article at all! It lacks the nuance and subtlety required in addressing such a sensitive issue as a man's possible demise. Intended humour came across as rigid and bitter, and most importantly the whole write-up offered no new narrative on the situation.

Posted by bobo on Feb 02 2010

ayo, stop kidding urself....na bad belle de worry u. This piece is brilliant and everyone is talking about it everywhere. On top of it all the author is not even a professional writer or a journalist yet look at what he came up with. U sound like an out of work english teacher....pl give credit where it is due and stop trying to discredit what virtually everyone knows and accepts is a brilliant piece of work. FFK should keep it up. Kudos to him and to Next newspaper for publishing it. We want more like this.

Posted by sauce on Feb 02 2010

ndu, and if FFK said that American Presidents sought third term in the past he was absolutely right. Term limits for Presidents in America have only been existence for about 40 years. Some of the greatest Presidents thayt America ever had did 3 terms in office or even more than that....Ted Roosevelt and others are good examples of that. Again there are no term limits for Prime Ministers in the U.K.. U must brush up on ur facts please before u criticise people like FFK on historical matters. Either that or go back to school. And if he supported a third term for his boss is that a crime? Would a third term for OBJ not have been better than Umarus corpsology and Queen Turai?

Posted by markus on Feb 02 2010

tone, but FFK has raised the real issues here. It is hardly his fault that some ignoramuses are not discussing those issues but would rather discuss him. And u tell me which politician anywhere in the world or in history is not a contested personality? It is actually a mark of importance that people are discussing u...the worst thing that can happen to any politician or public figure is to be ignored. FFK has exposed the evil of the day here in a v concise and brilliant manner. It is left for the rest of us to follow up, spread the word and do something about it. Instead some intelctually lazy fools are just trying to insult him here.

Posted by Babs Dodo on Feb 02 2010

The politician and his group have taken over this thread. We cannot even have respectful discussions on NEXT anymore. The idea is to shoot you down like an anti-aircraft missile if you say anything against Fanikayode or what he stands for. These guys are not doing this politician any good because in politics there is respect for other people’s views. Here, it has to be FFK views only and you can go jump into the ocean if you do not like it. I can now see that FFK has not changed one bit from the way he was bad mouthing every one that speaks against OBJ then. Yet he wants to contest for governorship in Oshun state. Oshun state has been peaceful now but supposing that this man becomes the governor will he not be like the current Ogun state governor who believes in silencing opposing views? The other thing is the attempt to rewrite history and making half truth comments on this blog, for instance they said OBJ obviously needs FFK and not the other way round. It is amusing to compare a war hero, a two time Nigerian president, one of the fathers of modern Nigeria, and probably the only African president to have hosted three American presidents and the only one to have traveled on Marine One with an American president with a one-time minister. Finally, I have to agree with Khadaria Ahmed, we southerners do not apply the same litmus test that we give to northerners when it comes to our brother. Why should I give FFK preferential treatment simply because he is my brother? It is now that we know that FFK helped Oshun state indigenes into the federal ministry of aviation. I can go on and on.

Posted by efo riro on Feb 03 2010

babs doso, I take strong objection to that. I am not a politician and neither do I think that most politicians bother which such blogs. The reason that many are speaking up for FFK here is because he has written an excellent write up for Next, he has spoken the truth and he has come out to expose the evil of Yar'adua and his wife. How many politicians have had the courage to do that? And whether u like it or not there is no attempt to re-write history here and neither does FFK need any special consideration from the kikes of u in the name of southern unity. It is true that OBJ needed him desperately to speak up for and defend him aggresively and with his natural eloquence and power.OBJ could not have done a better job defending himself and till today he is eternally greatful to Fani-Kayode for a job well done. If u dont know that then u know nothing. Again if u are unaware of the great efforts that he made at the ministry of Aviation as Minister then u are simply ignorant or u were living outside Nigeria at that time. U

Posted by efo riro on Feb 03 2010

Babs Dodo, I take strong objection to ur comments here and I assure u that I, for one, am not a politician but rather a jornalist and blogger of many years standing . The reason that many are speaking up here for Fani-Kayode is because he has written an excellent piece for Next newspaper, he has stood up for what is right whilst most of his political colleagues have sat glibly and selfishly on the fence and he has successfully exposed the malevolent intentions of the Yar'adua cabal even at great risk to own his life, liberty and political career. He has shown tremendous courage here and he should be commended for that because the weighty issues he has raised are vital. And let me assure u that it is true to say that Baba Iyabo needed him desperately when he was his Presidential spokesman because no one else, least of all OBJ himself, could have done it as eloquently, smoothly, effectively and aggressively as FFK. That is why most of OBJ'S detractors feared FFK and always knew that if they threw a brick at the President and didn't get their facts or their english right Fani-Kayode would come back and hit them ten times harder. OBJ loved and still loves him like his own son because of this. Contrary to what u have said this is no attempt to re-write history but rather it is a matter of historical fact and public record. Again if u do not know about the enormous achivements that he effected at the Ministry of Aviation, and even at the Ministry of Culture and Tourism before he was redeployed to Aviation, then it is either that u are simply dishonest or manifestly ignorant or that u were not living in Nigeria at that time. Let me refresh ur memory for u- when Fani-Kayode became Minister of Aviation he stopped planes from falling out of the sky and crashing, he effected many reforms and restructured the whole place and he insisted that foreign airline operators should start treating Nigerians with respect, which they did. That is just to mention just a few of his achievements. It is also a matter of public record that not a penny of public funds went missng under his watch either from the Aviation Intervention Fund or elsewhere and that he actually exposed the fact that 5 billion naira had been stolen by his predecessor in office. Nevermind the politically-motivated charges that were brought against him by the efcc-that was all part of a wider plot by Yar'adua to fight, silence and discredit OBJ, his govt. and his boys and it is not working. As a matter of fact it is a further testimony to FFK's courage that unlike some he did not run away when faced with such persecution. Fnally ur assertion that because people are defending him here somehow means that he is intolerant of criticism is not only asinine but it is hardly worthy of any response. The net is a place where people can express their views any way that they want and if people are rising up on this thread to commend and speak up for Fani-Kayode who are u to begrudge them that? Is this a place where lies, deceit, bitterness and falsehood must always hold sway? Are we to all sit back and keep quiet whilst someone is indulging in character assasination and smear campaigns of the worst kind. Finally nobody here, least of all Fani-Kayode needs ur special consideration or support in the name of southern solidarity....Fani did not write as a southerner but as a concerned and patriotic Nigerian. What I see here is mostly denigration borne out of spite and envy and that is what most people are reacting to and are not happy about.

It is only great leaders and great men that come out and speak at critical times like this. Fani-Kayode has not only hit the nail on the head but he has also confirmed his greatness and courage by standing with the people here. I am v proud of him and his article and I am deeply discouraged by some of the bitter and irreverent comments that a few have posted about the author here. What do Nigerians want? No one is perfect but when people write and say the right thing we should be decent and charitable enough to accept and commend it. When I SHOWED THE ARTICLE TO MANY OF MY FOREIGN FRIENDS THEY EXPRESSED SURPRISE THAT A NIGERIAN POLITICIAN AND FORMER MINISTER COULD WRITE SUCH A BRILLIANT AND BITING SATIRE. ISN'T THAT AMAZING? IT IS TIME THAT WE STARTED CELEBRATING OUR OWN HEROES JUST AS THE WEST CELEBRATE AND SHOW OFF THEIRS EVEN THOUGH NONE ARE ANGELS. WELL DONE FANI-KAYODE.

Posted by Eghosa on Feb 08 2010

I was shocked when I saw that this article was actually written by FFK. I was more shocked when I saw the comments-- not the number of them o; but the fact that the longer, more verbose, ones seemed to actually be advocating the man (As though they had to overcompensate for something.) FFK defenders, you say listen to the message not the man? Then get out of the way and let us see the message! And the man's past is entirely relevant to anything he's now saying. What's wrong with your memories?! Wetin dey do una?! Even if he now says what's been painfully obvious to every Nigerian for the last two months, does that endow him with any larger degree of bravery than other Nigerians who have spoken before him?

Posted by Naija4life on Feb 09 2010

I see a lot of 'sponsored' posts here. FFK's history and role in the past government are so loud that I can barely hear what he is saying here. He has no moral grounds to comment on the current state of Nigeria. If he were a part of this government, he would have done worse. He has been tested and he proved that he is no better than what we have now. He should go and rest. Let's try others.

Does it make sense to say someone should not speak out or write anything again just because he once opposed Gowon and because he supported and worked for OBJ? Yet it is because of the efforts of OBJ and his group and their speaking out at the right time together with the efforts of a few newspapers like Next that Yaradua and his cabal have been brought to their knees. Pl grow up and let us try to be focused. The easiest thing in the world is to demonise people aspecially when they have the courage and decency to stand up against evil. FFK has been writing brilliant articles for the last 20 years and it is a pity that idiots like u who are probably too young to appreciate that only see him through the prism of his role in Obasanjo's govt.. There is much more to him than that and his past efforts against dictators like Abacha and his role in NADECO during the June 12th struggle are a matter of public record. I remember a brilliant piece that he wrote in 1997 for the Guardian newspaper titled The Deification of a General where he spoke out forcefully against the Abacha govt and another titled The Dodo Syndrome which was a satire against Abacha's leporous political class in 1996. Both articles were v well received and were highly celebrated at the time. In fact they were regarded as classics and received public commendation from the late Chief Bola Ige, Professor Wole Soyinka, Bola Tinubu and so many other progressives and anti-Abacha activists at that time. If u have a short or stunted memory about such matters or u are suffering from bitterness or hatred for someone it does not mean that the rest of us must suffer the same affliction as u. The point is how many Nigerians of FFK's stature have the courage and decency to come out and speak at a time like this against the Yaradua cabal and for what was right? The truth is that it is the voice and protests of people like him that are part of the ruling class and the intelligensia that can make a difference and not the likes of u. History is being made here so for goodness sake try to be more objective or just shut up. Most importantly don't try to force ur opinion down the throats of others. This is a democracy.

@babadeborah, u are not making any sense. Whatever u say here the truth is that Fani is simply brilliant. It is that brilliance coupled with his natural charrisma and flamboyance that makes many envy him. I loved his style when he was in govt and I love his style now. He is cool, calm, patient and v effective and many of us look up to him because of that. His article's message has hit home and many people are quoting it everywhere. Frankly that is all that counts and certainly not ur opinion of him. Whether u like the writer or not does not matter so just go and eat ur heart out and live with FFK's rising profile.

One day Fani-Kayode will be a great and very powerful man in Nigeria. Just wait and see. It is not over for him yet. This is a very very good write up. Very timely too. Well done to Next newspaper for publishing this one. I could not stop laughing all the way through.
