Whose report do you believe

Every Christian must decide whether s/he is a follower of Jesus or a follower of Paul. Don't make the mistake of many in assuming the two are the same. For starters, take a look at the following discrepancies.

Inconsistencies

Jesus says children of God are born (Jn 3:3); but Paul says they are adopted (Rm 8:23).

Jesus says God must be the only father of believers (Mt 23:9); but Paul says he (Paul) is the father of some believers (Phile 1:10; 1 Cor 4:15).

Jesus says he is the only pastor and the only teacher (Jn 10:16; Mt 23:8); but Paul says there are many pastors and teachers (Eph 4:11; 1 Tim 2:7).

Jesus says we should pray in private (Mt 6:5-6); but Paul says we should pray everywhere (1 Tim 2:8).

Jesus says we should not eat food sacrificed to idols (Rev 2:14); but Paul says it does not matter if we do (Rm 14:14).

Jesus himself was circumcised (Lk 2:21); but Paul says if we are circumcised we would be estranged from Christ (Gal 5:2-4).

Jesus says we should not receive payment for preaching the gospel (Mt 10:8); but Paul says we should (1 Cor 9:11).

Jesus asks us to baptise as we preach the gospel (Mt 28:19); but Paul dismisses the importance of baptism (1 Cor 1:17).

Jesus says lying is of the devil (Jn 8:44); but Paul says God's truth increased through the lies he told (Rm 3:7).

Jesus says the word of God is truth (Jn 7:17); but Paul says the gospel can be preached with falsehood (Php 1:18).

Jesus is against the use of deception (Jn 1:47); but Paul boasts of using deception (2 Cor 12:16).

Jesus says we should love one another (Jn 13:34); but Paul wished some people would be castrated (Gal 5:12).

Jesus says we should love our enemy in order to be like God (Mt 5:44-45); but Paul says we should love our enemy in order to pour coals of fire on his head (Rm 12:20).

Jesus says we should not swear or curse (Mt 5:34-37; Lk 6:28); but Paul swears and curses (2 Cor 1:23; Gal 1:9).

Jesus says God's children don't bear arms and don't fight (Mt 26:52; Jn 18:36); but Paul says God's ministers bear arms and use them (Rm 13:3-4).

Jesus says we should disregard public opinion (Lk 6:26; Jn 15:18-19); but Paul actively courts public opinion (1 Cor 10:33; 1 Cor 9:20-22).

Jesus says he who is acceptable to God will be hated by men (Jn 15:18-19; Lk 16:15); but Paul says he will be approved by men (Rm 14:18).

Jesus says we should seek the kingdom of God and his righteousness (Mt 6:33); but Paul says we should seek glory, honour and immortality (Rm 2:7).

Jesus says the kingdom of God has been taken away from Israel (Mt 21:43); but Paul says all Israel will be saved (Rm 11:26).

Jesus says only a few of those called will be chosen (Mt 22:14); but Paul says all those called will be chosen (Rm 11:29).

Jesus says salvation is by works (Mt 7:21; Mt 21:28-31); but Paul says it is by grace (Eph 2:8-9).

Jesus says he completed his God-given assignment (Jn 17:4; Jn 19:30); but Paul says he completed what Jesus failed to complete (Col 1:24).

Jesus says our trespasses will be forgiven if we forgive others (Mt 6:14-15); but Paul says they have already been forgiven (Eph 1:7).

Jesus says we will be justified by our own words (Mt 12:37); but Paul says we are justified by faith (Rm 3:28).

Jesus says eternal life is very costly (Mt 19:29; Lk 14:28-33); but Paul says it is a free gift (Rm 6:23).

Jesus says God is not the God of the dead (Lk 20:38); but Paul says he is (Rm 14:9).

Jesus says the commandments give life (Mt 19:17); but Paul says they bring death (Rm 7:10).

Jesus says all the commandments are summed up in two commandments (Mt 22:37-40); but Paul says they are summed up in one commandment (Rm 13:9; Gal 5:14).

Jesus says we should beware of anyone who says the day is at hand (Lk 21:8); but Paul says the day is at hand (Rm 13:12).

Jesus says Abel, Adam's direct son, was righteous (Mt 23:35); but Paul says all Adam's descendants are unrighteous (Rm 5:12/19; Rm 3:10).

Jesus says none of the Pharisees kept the law (Jn 7:19); but Paul says he kept all the laws of Moses as a Pharisee (Php 3:5-6).

Jesus says we should be like God (Mt 5:48); but Paul says we should be like him (Gal 4:12; Php 3:17).

Whose report do you believe?

I only believe the report of Jesus Christ.

Antinomies (maybe they are contradictions, after all) in Christianity? Who ever imagined that is possible! Maybe Paul is not a follower of Christ. Perhaps Christ is not Paul's savior. Your writings make me feel ever more secure in my unbelief. Ride on, doctor.

Femi, I only believe the report of God, which he shew the world through Jesus Christ his son and all his prophets. I respect and love your articles but, I must confess, most times they (your articles)are on the brink of heresies

Posted by TJ on Aug 10 2009

Hi Femi, I beg to disagree with you totally. I am a follower of Jesus Christ, the same Jesus Christ that Paul followed. There is no contradiction. The spirit of God is one. 2nd Timothy 3:16- ALL scripture is given by inspiration of God......'. The Bible is one unbroken body. I think the challenge is that each time you have quoted in your article, you have quoted out of context. The scripture in John 3:3 maintains that we must be born again. Has it occurred to you that what this means is that after the physical birth, there must be a spiritual adoption into the kingdom? That is what Romans 8:23 says. That is why Paul's writing to the church is always opened by ' Paul, a servant of Christ Jesus, called to be an apostle...' Paul also maintains that there should be no division in the body- 'Paul plants, Apollo waters but God giveth increase.' I do not want to go through each of the instances cited, in summary, please check your Bible again.

Men, this is astonishing. Always felt s'thing was off with Paul but cudnt locate it. I've gone thru the scriptures one by one. I bet TJ has not. They are not out of context. How come most Xtians dont know Paul is not a disciple of Christ? God help us all.

Now let me read some deep born again arguements. Thanks Femi, i think i am gonna enjoy the thread.

Mr Aribisala, what do you have against Paul? Christ was sent to minister among the Jews, His people, and to die for the salvation of ALL mankind, Paul's ministry was to the gentiles. The jews and the gentiles had very different backgrounds, surely you do not expect that he would approach things in the exact same way. Read the parable of the great feast(Mark 22: 1-14); The people initially invited to that feast to honour the groom were an elite group, the chosen, but when they wouldn't listen, the commoners were invited, good and bad alike (circumcised and uncircumcised alike, those who ate foods sacrificed to idols) and at the end of the day, it was grace (a free gift or privilege) that got them there not their worthiness, plus even the same Paul says in Romans 3: 31 "If we emphasize faith(salvation by faith through grace), does this mean that we can forget about the law (works)? Of course not! In fact, only when we have faith do we truly fulfill the law.'. Clearly you do not read the bible with the understanding of the Spirit of God and it is only His spirit that can make you understand the things of God.(Jn 16: 13 -15) When next you read His word, ask the spirit to guide you so you do not speak out of your own wisdom. And Alonzy, there was something off about Paul, he, like all of us, was an imperfect man, striving to attain God's perfection and he never denied his sinfullness or the many mistakes he made in the past. We must recognise that only Christ was and is perfect. We, should, like Paul and all God's children, strive to attain God's standard and not bother ourselves about who is or is not off. Let God be the judge of that. After all is said and done we must all , in the words of PAUL... look up to JESUS, the author and finisher of our faith.(Heb. 12:3).

Nice one! Nice one! It is good to read with your brains and not your emotions but unfortunately, most people rely on their emotions instead of their brains and that is why Nigeria is in a mess today. Dr. Aribisala, Oyato jo!

Its quite an interesting article and it all goes to reflect the extent to which our naija type of education has helped reduced our thinking abilities!!! Doctor please note that the Bible is not a journalistic material and if its not then it should be read with the perspective the owner wants it to be read. I can tell you that the onwer's manual that come with your car sure has 'contradictions' because you dont understand the way the car should work but once your mind takes up the position of the builder of the car, you then begin to enjoy the car and discover new things. All these said and done, ask baba God to give you his spirit for you to understand God's manual-the Bible.

@Your name!!! Dr. Femi Aribisala was educated to the highest level in some of the best universities in the world, and held high political office before Christ apprehended him. He (like Paul) is a man who abandoned all for Christ, and his preaching style is a breath of fresh air in the murky and polluted waters of Nigeria's Christiandom. The simplicity of his lifestyle and total lack of love of money are a testimony, and recommend him highly. I only give you some of his background to correct your impression that he is a product of "our naija type of education", and therefore is intellectually unsound. That is not to say that I agree or disagree with his teaching on Paul. While I can see some places where he may have a point, I have no check in my spirit concerning Paul. The Apostles gave him their hand of fellowship, and never warned against him by name. The truth, I must confess, is that I love Paul deeply. The letter killeth, but the Spirit giveth life.

Posted by Ace Newman III on Aug 15 2009

Haba! The author is highly misled, you see, because Jesus spoke mainly to people that were not yet born again. He had not finished the work of redemption, he had not yet died for our sins. When he died, the “rules of the game” changed. The codes were tranformed. Paul was talking from the after-crucifixion position, Jesus was talking about what obtains as at before his crucifixion, and he had to speak with care lest the people try to get him killed before the Passover. The NEW TESTAMENT starts after Christ rose from the dead, you understand? Meanwhile, a good number of those things attributed to Paul are due to the weak English language, consider them in original Greek tongues for accurate interpretation. Cheers…

Dr femi, i read and enjoy your articles every sunday. I noticed that you are a new breed- The new wine. the World is ernestly waiting for them: Although, some are being trained in a location in lagos! God is yet to unveil them. I will send to you the divine teachings on Apostle paul and celebrations which christians celebrates today.[ mouth to mouth by the Holy Spirit} before you go through the teachings prayerfully ask the Holy Spirit as you did when you were to be reinstated to your job during Abacha's Era- REMEMBER TUESDAY 9PM NTA! to minister to you. Do not be like the old wine, who rely on their personal, emotional and sentimental understanding of Spiritual things instead of the Holy Spirit. On Apostle Paul, he was ordained by God although the World in today are confused with his teachings which has divided the body of Christ and put it in state of confusion. Paul was a suitable alternative an 'effective alternative' and an appropriate alternative. He came as a replacement, a 'HORN' to lay the foundation for the Gentile Nations beginning from Nigeria! Apostle Paul emerged as a result of Peter that coming as the head of the church [A zealous conservative to the Jews} Apostle paul is greatly misunderstood today because many do not understand the background to his calling. Although, he made mistakes in the Ministry. Apostle paul taught so many things which people has turned upside down today. He went too far drawing on the vision of the Glorious church given him in paradise then: Now is the Era of the Glorious dispensation, hence the the kind of exposition you begin to see ''whose report do you believe? with a view to unvieling certain personal experience and allegories of the writers of scripture which were not inspired by the Holy Spirit in the Bible. At the appointed time some of the discrepancies will be removed. but now God is only preparing you for the shocker of the NEW WINE CALLED THE GLORIOUS CHURCH DISPENSATION IN THE BODY OF CHRIST.through writers like DR femi stoip criticisms and prayerfully ask for Divine understanding with an open mind to the Spirit of GOD. Welcome to Gloriousness in the body of Christ unifying us in one body.

How is it you do not understand that I did not speak to you concerning bread?—but to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and Sadducees.” Then they understood that He did not tell them to beware of the leaven of bread, but of the doctrine of the Pharisees and Sadducees.(Matthew 16:11-12) Jesus gave warning about a certain group of people who are fond of peddling false teachings, namely the Pharisees and their modern day equivalent, pastors. These kind of people are in the habit of coming up with one teaching or the other that for the most part has nothing to do with God and it comes as no surprise that ‘Apostle’ Paul claims membership of this group. But when Paul perceived that the one part were Sadducees, and the other Pharisees, he cried out in the council, Men and brethren, I am a Pharisee, the son of a Pharisee: of the hope and resurrection of the dead I am called in question. (Acts 23:6) Paul reveals by his own words that he is a Pharisee, contrary to his often repeated claim of being an Apostle of Christ and funny enough, this incident happened 14 years after his Damascus road conversion, many years after he had declared himself an Apostle and was already writing some of his ‘great’ epistles, yet ‘Apostle’ Paul without hesitation declares himself a Pharisee, the very same people Jesus gave warning about their fondness for false doctrine. 'For I tell you, if your uprightness does not surpass that of the scribes and Pharisees, you will never get into the kingdom of Heaven.(Matthew 5:20) Paul by his confession has shown that his uprightness is no better than that of a Pharisee and also he obviously is not familiar with the teachings of Jesus because if he knew that Jesus had a very low opinion of the Pharisees he would never have identified himself as one in public as was recorded in Acts 23:6. “I know your works, your labor, your patience, and that you cannot bear those who are evil. And you have tested those who say they are apostles and are not, and have found them liars; (Revelation 2:2) ‘Apostle’ Paul by his words has shown himself a liar and when he was put to the test he immediately revealed that he is a Pharisee and not an Apostle, he has also shown a willingness to manipulate scripture in order to establish all kinds of doctrines that are clearly not from Jesus and unfortunately this false teachings has become the foundation of Christianity today.

It makes interesting reading and provides a chance to look at the bible in a slightly different way. Either delibrately or simply as a matter of mischief, some of the statements have been taken out of context to give the impression that they are contraditory. Since I do not know how sincere the author might be in searching the Scripture, I am reluctant to delve into details since we have been warned not to cast our pearls before swine.

I have followed Femi’s articles in Next with some amusement for a while, but I must say with all due respect, I find the above claims of biblical inconsistencies laughable. I can only conclude that he either at best woefully ignorant of the truth of God’s word (in which case he should refrain from making comments regarding it), or he aims to handle the word craftily with the aim of deception and leading others into error. Humility is required in approaching, talk less interpreting scripture. Speaking about biblical inconsistency as fundamental as claiming that Pauline doctrine is not in sync with that of Christ, is a major manifestation of pride and a strong indication that the proponent of such a view doesn’t really have a clue. In the determination of the books that have now come to be called the Canon of scripture, holy men thousands of years ago prayerfully and painstakenly examined all scriptural works and selected only those which they considered to be of the highest inspiration (both in word and meaning i.e verbal and plenary) for inclusion in the Canon (or standard) of scripture and Christian doctrine. Though there were a lot of good christian writings, only those that were considered inspired were included. None of these Holy men over hundreds of years ever identified any of the writings of Paul as not being truly inspired talk less of being contradictory to the writings of Jesus. Men like Origen of Alexandria (AD 160), Atanasius (AD 367), the African Synod of Hippo (AD393), Council of Carthage (AD 419), St Augustine, Matin Luther, to name a few all agreed to the authority of the biblical canon as it stands today. Even the Apostle Peter identifies Paul’s writings as scripture (2Peter 3:15-16). Just because you don’t understand what a verse means does not give you the authority to say that Paul is wrong or contradicts Jesus. Go to God in prayer and ask for insight and revelation; maybe you will learn something. Femi lists the verses alright, but twists their meaning; Interpreting scripture with no cognizance given to context, history, or even the light of the whole word of God. Giving ear to his views without proper discernment will put you on the wrong path. If you sincerely want to know God and are looking for someone to teach you about His ways, at least follow someone who has a clue about what they are talking about.

"Jesus says we should love our enemy in order to be like God (Mt 5:44-45); but Paul says we should love our enemy in order to pour coals of fire on his head (Rm 12:20)"....ummmm it wasn't Paul that originated that statement he was quoting from proverbs 25verses 21-22. which was written by king Solomon.

Dr. Aribisala is not looking at things properly. I do agree with him on one thing, there is something wrong with the bible.

You are just wasting your time fighting against TRUTH

Posted by George Pitts on Jun 07 2010

Well done sir!! People never seem to stop and think about where the Bible came from. They don't read and study it for themselves, instead they go to Church and pay to be told what is in the Bible. The group that decided which writings were included in the Bible chose what is now considered "our Bible" and decided which writings would NOT appear in the Bible. Then they set out forcefully to eliminate any and all people, places, and things- any and all that did not agree with their view. Much more evil then genocide. Not only did they attempt to wipe out races of people but also ideas or free thought. Then they made it a law, with a death sentence for anybody except individuals approved by their group, to even read the bible. People were forced to come to them and pay to find out what they said the Bible meant. This was the begining of the DARK AGES that lasted for 700-1000 years. Anyone who believes that such a group of people could put together a book that contains only GOD's "inspired" word and not include anything from the other side is crazy. The people here who advise to ask the "Holy Spirit" for help when reading the Bible should maybe ask God to help them instead because to people who do not have clear image of who the Holy Spirit actually is, any spirit can "pose as" and lead them astray.
