A
powerful militant leader popularly referred to as Government Ekpemupolo, alias
Tompolo, has finally surrendered and embraced the Federal Government Amnesty
Offer.
Tompolo was received by President Umaru Yar'Adua at the Presidential Villa,
Abuja, on Saturday night.
He came barely 24 hours to the expiration of the 60-day ultimatum given to
Niger Delta militants to accept the Government Amnesty Offer or face the wrath
of the law.
Tompolo, who was ushered into the villa by Timi Alaibe and Tony Anenih,
filled and signed the amnesty form, which he later presented to Mr. Yar'Adua.
Speaking shortly after receiving the form, the President commended the courage
of all the militant leaders and their members for accepting the amnesty
programme.
