U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton speaking at a Town Hall meeting in Abuja.

Nigeria is heartbreaking says Clinton

The U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton has described the situation in Nigeria as heartbreaking. Mrs. Clinton gave this description yesterday while speaking at the Corporate Council on Africa's Seventh Biennial U.S.-Africa Business Summit in Washington.

Mrs. Clinton, who acknowledged efforts by members of civil society in Nigeria for electoral reforms and an end to corruption, attributed the situation to the mismanagement of revenue.

"There is no doubt that when one looks at Nigeria, it is such a heartbreaking scene we see. The number of people living in Nigeria is going up. The number of people facing food security and health challenges are going up... because the revenues have not been well managed," she said.

Mrs. Clinton said that she had met with leaders in Nigeria and emphasised U.S.' "commitment to partnering with Nigeria in areas such as electoral reform, anti-corruption activities, better stewardship of oil revenues, and efforts to build a more diversified economy, as well as the resolution of the conflict in the Niger Delta."

According to Mrs. Clinton, the Obama Administration has strategies to help spur economic development in Sub-Saharan Africa and create conditions that will improve the lives of the African people.

"We are eager to move beyond stereotypes that paint Africa as a land of poverty, disease, conflict, and not much else.

And we will continue to lay a strong foundation for a new kind of engagement with Africa, one that is built on shared responsibility and shared opportunity, and on partnerships that produce measurable, lasting results," she said.

"From our perspective, for too long, Africa has been20viewed as a charity case instead of a dynamic continent capable of becoming a global economic engine of the 21st century. So it is time to change the narrative."

To this end, the secretary of state said the U.S. will help to create the right conditions for opportunities to be seized by focusing of five key areas: trade; development; energy security; more public-private partnership; and good governance, transparency and accountability, ending corruption, and adherence to the rule of law.

"We will focus on country-led plans and market-based investments in areas like food security, infrastructure, and women. We will focus on metrics and accountability, on nations eager to attack corruption and promote good governance," she said.

Mrs. Clinton however warned that the success of the Obama administration's ‘big agenda' and ‘very positive vision' for Africa is dependent on the continent's leaders.

"We have to acknowledge that none of this can happen without responsible African leadership, without good government and transparency and accountability, without acceptable rule of law, without environmental stewardship and the effective management of resources, without respect for human rights, without an end to corruption as a cancer that eats away at the entrepreneurial spirits and hopes of millions of people," she said.

They keep reminding us the truth we should tell ourselves. Its time our leaders call a national conference and sincerely fashion a way forwards.Nigeria cannot afford to be a failed state and the president said we should be patience and have faith in Nigeria.Time is running out and we are getting to the limit of patience. Please our dear leaders wake up for the future of Nigeria for God's sake.

MR George: once a thief, always a thief. Sincerity does not come all of a sudden.

Posted by Julie Sanusi-Williams on Oct 02 2009

It is heart-breaking because we have, through our own actions and inactions and abiding selfish and narrow thinking, nurtured and elevated thieves to the levels of leadership. The country is paying the price for our behaviour, past and present. Our leaders will not change until the followers change. We are locked in a position that is inferior. Whether Nigeria will escape from such position the extent to which the advantages of our current status are reversible or tranferable to a higher on. Unless an external force is applied to the current position or a sponteneous internal dynamics moves us to a higher level of consciousness Nigeria as a country is doomed. This has become a sad chorus. One of my biggest concern is that the country's horribly implemented democratic dispensation may turn off the population from that political model. It has to be said that the democratic model is great, but the thieves who call themselves the Nigerian leaders have bastardised the process.

Posted by Chudy Bonanza on Oct 02 2009

Frankly speaking, she is not far from truth, as we know that sincerity of purpose is the potent instrument for success, while consistency of purpose is the shortest way to success. Nigeria needs this 2 crucial tools to achieve visible development. But we would not by that consent to an indirect rule which is a form of colonization from any country offerin to help. We have the problem, let's find the solution ourselves...

Mrs. Hillary Cliton has spoken well mostly as it concerns the Niger Delta region... However, the silence of the "graveyard" should not be read as the herald of peace, for indeed it may very well be the proverbial calm before another storm. The issue on which the agitation was first launched is still not settled(FISCAL FEDERALISM), and the tension of this unfinished demand will continue to simmer under the surface until another affront on the sensibility of the people makes emotions boil over. The task before President Umar Yara, then is onerous. He cannot be seen by Arewa North to surrender to the popular demand for fiscal federalism, but excessive tough dealing/stand can prove counter productive. What is the option left? The AARON TEAM which he(Mr. President) must urgently open a negotiation with for a holistic settlement of the recurring decimal, before Nigeria is decimated. Time is fast running as can be seen in the awaken activities of MASSOB, OPC and other justice seeking movement in our "land". The question often asked is, can a spell of President’s Rule in toeing Arewa's status quo be any good to the Nigeria failing state? Some few sycophants seem to think so, but WE choose to disagree. At this particular juncture, President’s Rule would amount to pitching the oppressive center against the oppressed minorities and thus heighten the sense of alienation that already exists. Such a move would so easy be interpreted as another evidence of the Center/Northern relentless oppression of the marginalised population of the Southern Nigeria, by a people still licking its extremely fresh wounds, -The sacking and killing of thousand innocent people in Gbaramatu, Agge, Tombia, the Boma & Stanley broad day killings. The hanged Kenule Saro Wiwa is also there. Such a consequence would not be healthy for the overall peace in the country in the long run. It is a fabled truth that public memory is short, but what comes across as extremely surprising is that official memory too seems to suffer from similar amnesia. Let us ask ourselves this simple question to convince ourselves on this. What is criminal in the practicing of fiscal federalism? If the revolutionaries need to disarm, let it be after the temperature of the present stir drops below danger level. Just as it is not advisable to perform an operation on a patient running high fever, in our opinion, Arewa sentiments is at its peak can have extremely undesirable consequences in the long run for an insurgency prone state. There is need to restructure our homeland for enduring peace and development. Time is now and on a justified Nigeria WE stand! Thank you!

@iji there is something we can do we should ask the Americans to stop the aid to nigeria becos it's been use too strangle us further, the people in power are abusing it. Americans should shut it an act and stop using Nigeria to boost self esteem. 37 million americans struggle with incredible poverty, that means one in eight americans do no have enough money for food, shelter and clothing. So America should remove the tree in their eyes before removing the speck in ours.ENOUGH OF THIS STEROTYPING.

Mama Africa, your vote counted, so that the whole world feels sorry for U.S. economic depreciations or better, continuous U.S. and rest of western continues imperialisms elsewhere desires. Again, are you sincerely with your comments about Naija current so called democracy, that your heart caput? Then, you should not have voted to authorized insane Bush Administration go onto inhumane random killings both at home and everywhere else, in the name spreading democracy everywhere. Now that you voted, you’re feeling sorry for Naijans? This is confession of hypocrisy! Your innocent face does not morally count well with me. The U.S. and other western nations that you directly and or indirectly represent do not deserve to be African partners with the so called African governments. Your vote intention is working so that the democracy Africans NEVER genetically know about is working for your advantages and very slightly African politicians; while the rest of the fellow citizens face cruelty-type like slavery...poverties and or inhumanities everywhere especially in Africa where your interests are, creating free market enterprises for your country and rest of western countries. Mama Africa, your comments are heartless in the beginning, now you are intelligently making Naijans intellect shallows, it was you that made such situation possible in Africa. Can Africans and westerners switch continents so that hopefully we can have peace on earth between black and white people?

Posted by Dee on Oct 02 2009

This is not news! The same people that condemned the leadership yesterday have found themselves in the position of leadership today but have failed to make any difference. Those who are led and those who are writing comments here also need some soul-searching. When its time for elections, do you vote for the right candidates? Do we have Nigerians that are ready to make sacrifices? Simply put, when you get into a government position tomorrow, will you make sacrifices or just join in balkanizing the country? Nigerians need to think! Yes, think! Mrs Clinton could say that from the US, a country that spends immense resources on thinking through and promoting values!

Posted by Segun on Oct 02 2009

America in some ways give credence to bad leadership. Despite acknowledging fundamental flaws in the election that brought in Yar'adua, Mrs. Clinton still came visiting and honouring a fraudulent government. The US should demand its removal and insist on the right thing rather than hoping to work with a fraud to correct the errors in the system. Our leaders have in- built resources on how to defraud the system. They have no inkling whatsoever on how to correct the errors in the system.Hoping to work with them is like building a castle in the air. Another point is that from the History of African leadership failure, America and Russia helped install a higher percentage of the failed leaders against the wishes of the people during their phantom cold war. The cold war is over but the suffering of the continent Africa is yet to be over.

It is heart wrenching that at an age when we should be running,as a nation,we are still wearing pampers, and crying for pap. We remain a toddler-nation at 49.Very painful. What is particularly more painful is the shameful sight of beholding our contemporaries who are literarily in mid-flight,while we are still grappling at our baby walker. But how did we get to this point? What a sordid sight. What a paradox that a nation should be so blessed, and yet be so ravaged by what would appear to be a curse. Nigeria's twin plagues are mainly the misfortune of a visionless and inept leadership and the discovery of oil in the Niger Delta. Hilary Clinton's burden is one borne not so much out of care for our country but out of the fear of the effects of the spill that can result from a fetid situation as is potentially typical of Africa such as war, famine, strife, people displacement and refugee crisis ,etc. Nigeria,a nation of approximately 140 million people would hold a horrible prospect such as has never been seen before in these climes. At such a time, the USA would be burden bearer as usual. That is their worry. To them, the tell-tale of a potentially Now,come to think of it,how come that we seem to be so permanently fixated to non-devt for so long.Something I cannot accept is the concept of babyhood at mid-age which posits that even 49 years after independence, we are still a young nation. What we are up against is a new desciption of foolishness.Or is it no longer true that a fool at 40 potentially will be one forever. Nigeria is in dire need of a miracle. Not one that would rest responsibility of performance on the Almighty, but one that would be the result of a people awakening much in the mould of the Bolshevik revolution of the early 20th Century in Russia. A rev that would consunme the vampires in leadership. That would be a good start point. We are in need of a modern day jesus. One that will come with the mannerism of Jerry Rawlings. Only then can this baby begin to walk.

Posted by John on Oct 02 2009

Yes, very sobering commentry! But then our leaders have no shame, and after some saber-rattling and denial, etc. it will be corruption and mismanagement as usual. What we do not realize is that Nigeria is becoming a conspiracy - of a small group, to share the oil wealth among themselves and their families before the wells dry up. The US Secretary of State's comment will not permeate the impervious hides of the criminals ruling this nation. They will laugh it off.

Posted by IMO,Gabriel on Oct 02 2009

It is truth universally acknowledged that Nigeria is heartbreaking as Hilary Cliton observes. This is not only in the economic and political sector but mostly on the educational sector since federal government and ASSU are still not in talking terms without thinking of the students in public schools. In my opinion, to prevent these ugly situations, a climate of change favourable to peace must be established; the potential causes of conflick in Niger Delta, quest for power, economic competition, corruption etc, must be eliminated.Means for the settlement of disputes must be provided as in arbitration, mediation and trial procedures.

If we all look clearly at the situation of Nigeria, we will, without a doubt, see that it is the same idiots that have been in the position of "power" for years that still running things today. The problems of the nation are caused by mostly those that feel that the country is thier personal property to exploit as they deem fit. Only the almighty God will deliver us from the exploitation caused by those that are meant to protect our interest but turn around and suck it to us all the time. My suggestion is to get rid of the present administration, I don't care how we do it, and in the future, before you are considered as a candidate for any position, you must not have been related to any previous politician since the Federation was created. We are not going to take it any longer. The is no more good system of public education. The private system is meant for the elite. Thier children are all sent abroad with our money as soon as they get to SS2. Those of us that managed to keep our children in a program that should run 4 years at the university end up with the chilren spending 7 years because of school closures. Can you imagine? Obasanjo with a university? I like to know what the annual salary was from when he was a military man until he involuntarily retired as the president of our nation. The way it is now, all the past and present leaders belong to a special cult of thieves from the Northern to the Southern part of the nation, from the East to the West.

I guess our fore fathers that fought for the independence are regretting of what we are doing to ourselves. Look at Lagos to Benin road killing people daily, mass unemployment, student sitting at home since June. Some people in Abuja are always asking for revenue allocation. What a country. Going by the concerns of the Clinton's (Mr.+ Mrs.+daughter) one will see a family that wishs and means well for the people of Nigeria. The truth is that the people that have ruled this country after the second republic are all bandicts, criminals who has perfected the act of criminality and have legalised same in Nigeria. Whilst its heartbreaking for the Clinton's I mourn for the country because in the mist of plenty the people are subjected to abject poverty. A major oil producing country yet you find people going to streams and distance of upto 2km to fetch water in buckets. Obasanjo's regime sold off all the assets of the people yet the proceeds were squandered perharps this is the appropriate time for Onyeka Onwenu to actually produce the series of the squandering of riches. The only hope we have is that one day God will remove this cup of bad rulers from the society. In God we put our trust and hope.

Everyone talks about how much of a disgrace Nigeria and its leaders are or how we can only pray for a better Nigeria and basically pointing their fingers in blame in various directions. So I ask myself. If we have so many patriotic and good hearted Nigerians. Why is there not even a small change. Is it that everyone on this forum has no way of making a change. Where is Nigeria of the days of OKOYE ARIPO and the like of late JOE GARBA? They are the people that put Nigeria on the landscape of foreing policy as Mr of foreign affairs. NIgeria and the Nigerians are regressively behaving, by thinking that you need to smother the truth inorder to be patriotic. We need a total re -orientation for our citizens, regardless of our faith, we need to start finding a way to refuse a selective system of presidency, it has been our system under the pretence of democracy.

A nation divided against itself can never stand. Accusing the leadership of Nigeria WILL NEVER change Nigeria for good. The leadership is a product of the society. Every regime since independence has been blamed for this and for that, and nothing has changed. Change can only come from individual Nigerians regardless of where they are positioned in life. Don't be deceived, no other country in the world will help to build Nigeria. Nigeria will only be built by Nigerians, who love the country more than their tribe, state of origin, regional divide, self interest, ect. Until the love of the nation is born in us and we rise above the foolishless of speaking against the leadership nothing will change. Whatever a man sows, that will he reap. You don't harvest good by sowing evil. Weeds grow without planting, but crops that are beneficial to man only grow by being planted. If your eyes have not seen anything good about Nigeria, then you are blind. TO OUR LEADERS; What will it profit you if you steal all our money, and leave the country worse than when you came to power? Don't forget that you will give account of your stewardship to God one day.

Hillary, good dreams for our dear own country. I accede to the possibility of other focus but accountability and transparency; I am afraid we need to our house in order for that to be feasible. The pest that destroys the vegetable plantation has its home right on the plantation. With the likes of Aondoakaa, Ibori, "Snail farmer", Andy and his cohort Chris Uba and the other "shamefully criminals" often refered to as the "powers that be" still in the cockpit of the Nigeria Aircraft, there can't be a smooth ride let a lone a smooth landing. In fact, they will rather hit the cockpit eject button when the storm comes to rock the aircraft and are not bothered by the number of innocent souls that wil be lost. Hillary, leadership overhaul is the first step. Your help will have no significant positive effect if you embark on any reform initiative without first dispersing the cancerous govt in charge. It will be as good as putting the cart before the horse.

There are times when it is necessary to fight against things that have become so wrong that they should no longer be. Things that were once small that have become big, but are no less wrong, must be made small again; a revolution, or a complete circle, is needed. Whether you want freedom from another country , or you want to overthrow an oppressive government, every fight is the same. A revolution (from the Latin revolutio, "a turnaround") is a significant change that usually occurs in a short period of time. Revolutions have happened throughout human history and vary widely in terms of methods, duration, motivating ideology, and the number of participating revolutionaries. Their results include major changes in culture, economy, and socio-political institutions.WE NEED ONE URGENTLY IN NIAJA..........

God has done his part(bless us with fossil fuel, solid minerals, fertile soil, condusive weather condition, talents, stable plate free of earthquake and flooding), the rest is in our hand, I am not saying we should stop praying but our present condition is a function of our handwork. We need good leadership, honesty and unity to properly manage the resources. Why should the rich be thinking of getting richer without considering the poor, we have talents that can shake the world but our government is not encouraging them, remember unprocessed gold is as useless as ordinary stone. Our future is in our hands.

hail to mrs Clinton, you saw it and said it correctly. but asking the same so called leaders who held us hostage and continuously maintain this slow death nigerians are forced to go through will not produce any positive change. i then ask nigerians themselves, both those still caged inside nigeria and those who escaped to foreign countries and latently declared self exiles, IS THERE NOTHING WE CAN DO TO PUT NIGERIA BACK WHERE SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN? i presume her excellency mrs Clinton will help us. i declare the truth, if we (nigerians) remain quiet as we have, we will keep dying quietly, think about that. Bola Iga, the then Attorney General of the entire Nigeria, was brutally and openly murdered while his friend and boss, the then president of the country watched and had a good time of it. we have prayed, we have exercised faith, and have hoped God would have answered us by now. but so as it may be, nigerians, is it not time we do something else? thank you.

The first thing that was needed to kickstart development in Nigeria was democracy. We've got that even though it is not perfect or near the ideal situation. With people's madate protected much further, we will inch closer to self actualisation. Althugh it is late for those of us who are adult, we can prepare the way for our children so that they may in turn prepare for their own children. Please, don't let us forget that there is political consciousness among the majority of Nigerians. Now they have someone like Tinubu in Lagos to point to as a model. Tinubu installed Fashola who is turning Lagos around very quickly. Nigerians in other states are pointing at Lagos as a reference point which they would like their governors to emulate. We will get there soon. Even sooner than you may think.

Both the government and the people that are governed are all corrupt. I want to assure you that nigeria have not even started. I am advicing mr president to choose one thing from the 7 point agenda instead of the whole 7.

We have all failed. The rich, the poor, the leader and the led.Every Nigerian at all levels of any manner of position(in the church, village/town union, government office, political partis etc) sees his position as an opportunity to steal. We can save this country only by individual and collective change of values and love of Nigeria. Presently we are looking for a leader will can propel the desired change.

The funiest thing is that Nigeria is one of the most religious state for both Christians and Muslims, our religious Leaders now have a very big role to play becaus emost of these politicians are members of thier verious congragations. Please I think there should also be a reform in religious houses to checkmate the message they are passing to thier members, Muslim,Christians and whatever. They all say prayers against the devils when they are the once raring them. God has given them enough time to change since they have refused and , nature is taking out all our moouth pix, now Gani is gone. They should wait for God to tell them now what to do, Nigeria and Africa make progress in all...

Nigeria isfacing challenges- like mostother countries. But I honestly am uncomfortable with the way Mrs. Clinton is going about the Nigerian matter. For crying out loud,Nigeria is a sovereign state and for a senior American official like her to run Nigeria down from Kenya to Nigeria and back to US, it is very unbecoming. Besides, how come America is always open to our leaders to stash/invest stolen public funds? It is the hieght of hypocrisy because anyone who houses stolen wares is no better than the thief. And by the way, who are the civil society organisations and organisers and activists? The people that with the devil in the night and join the angtels in the afternoon. Is it the Bola Tinubus that have refused to go and clear their names in the UK. Or is those pursuing their selfish political agenda. The only true activist was late Chief Gani Fawehemi and he has gone. What remains is a pack of pay-as-you-go activists. Mrs. Clinton had better woke up

Its a shame that as old as Nigerian leaders are; and at 49 years of existence as an independent nation with control over massive resources, majority of Nigerians are surviving from hand to mouth. I actually blame their black skin. It appears to be a curse. Mrs Clinton may need to change the skin of Nigerian leaders in order to reform them and make them think aand behave like human beings! Its the bitter truth.

Part of the problem we have is the fact that Nigerians in diaspora complicate the issue by collectively joining the bandwagon of castigating Naija.I think they use it as means of justification for remaining abroad.Let us all join hands to make the country better

Posted by Kola-USA on Oct 03 2009

Truth is bitter,Hillary Clinton has talked. Nigeria is a failed state,no doubt about this. Our leaders have failed us. They have sent us back to the pre-colonial days, hundred years back. We can't even proud to be a Nigerian again. Every country is rejecting Nigerian citizens. Imagine countries like Gambia and Libya debating everyday about what to do with the population of Nigerians residing in their country. We imports what we have and exports what we don't have. Our leaders go around the world flaunting their ill gotten wealth. Just a week back, President Yar'Adua decided to go to Saudi Arabia to witness the ceremony of yet to be University at the expense of coming to the United Nations meeting in US. Nigerians home and abroad should rise up and say no to all this political jobbers.

Posted by Matt Akpos on Oct 04 2009

We Nigerian should get this right. Have we asked ourselves the reason why our leaders do not care for the masses? Well, the answer is simple. Nigeria have turned into one party state. An association of thieves and heartless leaders with no shame in their dictionary. There is no oposition party to challenge them. In effect there is no checks and balances in the system. The PDP party is a cult formed to distroy our beloved country Nigeria. All PDP members joined the party to enrich themselves and their family. They don't care if the country is going into drain. It is said that any child who deprived his/her parents from sleeping.....that child will not sleep too. Our leaders cannot leave in peace when there is no good road linking major cities and states, run down hospitals without aminities, paralised educational system, questionable legal system where one law is made for the rich and one for the poor, coupled with total neglet for human rights. As for Nigeria President, going abroad for medical treatment tells us that you did not believe in our hospitals and our doctors. The question is how then do you want your subjects to use these facilities if you do not trust and believe in using them. The leaders in those countries you go to for treatment, provided good facilities in their hospitals to high standard. So do same for Nigeria hospitals and stop wasting our resouces going abroad for treatment. Perhapes, you need to forget about the 7 points agenda and concentrate on one or two problen at at a time. For example, concentrate on providing the nation with constant light. As we all know, when there is constant light, many things will fall into shape. It will speed up economic development. Enough is enough. All Nigerian needs, is to pray for God to give us leaders that will bring complete revolution to the country and wipe out all previous leaders that are corrupt, to serve a big lesson for any future leaders to serve the people and not for their personal gain.

Nigerian public officials are replete with the story of men and women in exalted positions who betrayed the trust and confidence reposed on them to enhance their personal well-being. Things were much better than it is now when nigeria had its civil war. The biggest question on everyone lips now is which way nigeria? The dog has eaten the bone hung on its neck.

It is really disheartening when the income from natural resources like oil does not benefit the people it is intended for. This is not a Nigerian prodlem alone, this is an african predicament. African leaders are all alike, they are out to bleed thier respective countries to 'death' and siphon the money into foreign banks. We find it very hard to raise up our voices lest we bear the consequences of questioning our leadership! If I may ask, since our leaders have failed us shall we sit back and watch African former glory fed away or shall we rise up for a revolutionary? I believe--- Mrs Clinton, the international community can help stop corruption in Nigeria and the rest of Afican countries by not allowing this leaders to siphon out money into their secret accounts abroad.

ONLY NIGERIANS AT HOME STILL THINK that Nigeria is AFRICAS'"GIANT" Yes! Africa's giant SHIT. What the Northern hegemony in assistance of the Afenifere assistantship has done to Nigeria is nothing short of crime. There is ONE THING CRUCIAL in the Nigerian situation so far. IGBO PARTICIPATION in the administrative drivership of Nigeria is the ONLY factor that changed form the old Nigeria. Hausa/Yoruba piloted Nigeria has had ONE COLLECTIVE AGENDA in mind since the Nigerian civil war ended almost 40 years ago, MARGINALISE, and CASTRATE THE IGBO MAN. hOW HAS THIS WORKED OUT FOR THE BETTERMENT OF nIGERIA? I was a young Boy during the War, in Boys Brigade, listening to stuff like, "TO KEEP NIGERIA ONE, IS A TASK THAT MUST BE DONE" Well, they forgot something after they succeded in keeping Nigerian one. They forgot to draw another agenda that would have made Nigeria a better place and succesful, that of integrating Nigeria to work for ALL NIGERIANS. Nigeria is an UNLOVED Country, where every Nigerian is fighting to get a share of the National cake. Compare this to what Biafrans felt, PRIDE in their fatherland. I will be a BIAFRAN till I die, and so will every youngster who had the God given experience of watching Odumegwu Ojukwu inspire a generation of die hard Patriots. That is what a leader does, and that is is how you grow a Country. Nigeria is a FALACY, wanted only because of Oil. NIGERIA IS THE GREATEST SHAME on the face of every BLACK MAN on earth. Northen Nigeria had NEVER beed known for giving a Rat's ass about education, but yet, they practically own Nigeria, and throw out crumbs to the grumbling western Nigeria, another education loving Nigerians. What went wrong? Britain loves the plight of Nigeria, given that she helped kill Biafra. Things are easier for the west to pilfer Nigeria. BBC broadcasts in Hausa, and that goes to show you how they help direct the proprities of Nigeria. I am not blaming the evil white man like lots of people call them. The Black man must have something wrong with him that makes him self destructive, enjoy being dominated by other Races, and actually prefer things made by other Races. Maybe, the Black Man was created to be a CONSUMER, and here we are blaming others for our own deficiencies. It takes a WHITE WOMAN to come and tell Nigerians that they are not worth a shit, and can actually do better. SAD INDEED. Ghana had Nkuruma, Nigeria had Zik. Nigeria MUST DIE and set free it's vast ethnic citizens to determine their own fate. I had recurrent dreams that I joined the US Airforce, and actually escaped with Nuclera warheads and set Nigerian Oilfields ablaze. Meaning of this is, WITHOUT OIL, Nigeria will DIE, and a vast majority of AFRICANS will be set free from what has bocome a TOXIC CODEPENDENCE. Nigeria's ethnic groups must become independent but with shared federal resources to manage their own state of affairs. Long live BIAFRA. I would rather live under the imagination of what could have been a glorious Country full of pride, than being part of the worst nightmare ever to materialize in the name of a COUNTRY. NIGERIA SUCKS.

Only a bloody revolution will put Nigeria on the right track. China, France, Cuba, Russia, USA, to name a few had to go through theirs. Or maybe it can start in South Africa or elsewhere and sweep north through the rest of Africa. It's about time Africans woke from slumber. Someone of Mao Tse Tung's calibre please. No pastors or priests! We need more than prayers.

God has granted the nation grace, it's now left to the people to get up and do something about it. I keep hearing things about corrupt leadership...huh??? the whole nation is so damn corrupt, it's unbelieveable!. Greed rules that country. The majority pursue their own selfish interest. How then can growth be achieved??? So called citizens who don't fight for effective fiscal and monetary policies. Y'all just sit and blame the other party. They colonized y'all, they did this, they did that....well then, do something to alleviate ur situation! damn! stop talking! and act!

How can Nigeria not be heart-breaking when it doest notb really exist/ We all know that this failure of a state is an arrangee thing by the British and the over-ambitious leaders we had at Independence who were not satisfied with being the head of their people but allowed the greed of the British to lure them into this sorry state called Nigeria. They would always still the money - by the mallams form up north with a few of their Southern collaborators. To the typical Mallam up north, It is Gofment money. Na bi ya money. make i chop am. So as long as you still lumped animals together with people, dis entity would always continue to be failed state. Unitl d members of the individula nations within dis charade of a Country realised the truth and taek their destiny in their hands, we would not move forward, --- all them thieves are still seeing the oil money to steal to build their castles in Abuja, Kano, etc. Adieu, Nigeria

IBB wants to come back. Now all Children of this corrupt leaders are British and American citizen, the always send thier wives abroad to deliver, thier kids go to school here, the dont care abt an ordinary folks back home. We need a wind of change, we need to wipe out this generation of leaders, same thing that happen in Ghana, this is 2009 we still dont electricity, and we have so much money........sometimes i feel like crying, something i feel happy that i utilized well my last bullet when i was at embassy to get my visa to leave that country but i still have my extended family in Nigeria, the are socked in poverty.....and i cant just help everybody.

This is how they want to assist us....Selling arms to rebels for killing each other......Yet we cannot wake up from sleep....A container full of arms and ammunition has been seized by Nigerian customs officers in Lagos harbour. One person has been arrested and officials are searching for the owner of the arms, which came in from the US. A BBC reporter in Lagos says it has raised concerns about the proliferation of arms ahead of polls in 2011. He says in the past politicians and their backers, known as "political godfathers", have recruited and armed young men to intimidate their rivals. News of the seizure comes days after the end of an amnesty in the oil-rich Niger Delta, where the government has been urging militants to hand in their weapons but...... Analysts say many of the area's militant groups were originally armed by political godfathers. Officers of the Nigeria Customs Service say they intercepted the 40ft (12m) container while carrying out routine inspection at Apapa port in Lagos. The BBC's Fidelis Mbah in Lagos says it is not the first shipment to be found this year. In June two ships loaded with weapons were impounded by Nigeria's navy in the southern port of Calabar. A third vessel escaped to sea. Mrs TALK...

Where are the radicals in the Nigerian Military? Are they sleeping? I dont mean miltary thieves in the likes of Obasanjo, Babangida, Abacha who will seize power and continue business as usual. I am talking about military like Rawlings who will come and not even stay one day in power but beg, I say beg somebody like Pastor Adeboye Enoch (GO) the redeemed christian church to help head an interim govt, organise election and instal credible people in offices. Nigeria is a stupendously rich society and the only one thing we need is this quality leadership. We can not get it cheaply except by force and only revolution, which will not pay the downtrodden masses, can rescue power from the present occupiers. The alternative to that will be peaceful take over of the government by progressively minded military personels who can follow the above recipe. We have too many qualified people in Nigeria in all field of endeavours. Right thinking people who can muster necessary force should do something. We can not get good government cheaply in the present circumstance where corruption is our national emblem, pledge and anthem. We need force. Some people somewhere should do something please. Nigerians are suffering, living in fears, hunger, deprivations.

ONE FACT IS THAT THE USA HAS ABUNDANCE OF FOOD AND ALL THE BASIC NECCESITIES OF LIFE ARE ABUNDANT EVEN FOR THE POOREST OF POOR. EVEN THOUGH THERE IS CORRUPTION HERE, IT IS NOT LARGE SCALE AND IF YOU ARE CAUGHT, YOU WILL GO TO JAIL AND NOT WALK FREE LIKE POLITICIANS DO IN NIGERIA. THE LIKES OF OBASANJO, IBORI, BABANGIDA ETC WILL BE LOCKED UP FOR A LONG TIME IF THEY WERE AMERICANS. HILLARY KNOWS WHAT SHE IS TALKING ABOUT AND SHE MEANT WELL. THERE IS NOTHING WRONG IN ANY PROGRESSIVE PARTNERSHIP AS LONG AS IT WILL BENEFIT US AND MAKE THE GOOD THINGS OF LIFE AVAILABLE TO OUR PEOPLE WHICH IS ONE THING OUR LEADERS HAVE FAILED TO DO. WHEN OBAMA VISITED GHANA, THE TONE OF HIS SPEECH WAS DIFFERENT FROM THE ONE DELIVERED BY HILLARY IN NIGERIA. WHY IS BECAUSE GHANA IS ON THE RIGHT PATH AND ALSO A ROLE MODEL IN AFRICA. IN AMERCA, THE POLICE, LIGHT, ROADS, DRAINAGE, GOVERNMENT, HOSPITALS, EMERGENCY SYSTEM ETC WORK BUT IN NIGERIA NOTHING WORKS. THEREFORE ALL YOU HILLARY CRITICS NEED TO SHUT UP AND SEE BEYOND YOUR NOSE THAT THIS SMART WOMAN MEANT WELL FOR NIGERIA.

I think its time we take our destiny into our own hands, its time for all progressive Nigerians to stand up and fight for their right, now is the time for us to make the final sacrifice for the redeemssion of this nation, now is the time for us to say no to imposition of criminals to mislead us .now is the time for us to say no to leaders that have no vision , leaders that have nothing upstairs, Nigeria is not a country , its a pity we find ourselves in this mess .
