Governor Timipre Sylva of Bayelsa State, at the weekend, signed into law four bills recently passed by the House of Assembly.

The new laws are the 2009 Bayelsa State Public Procurement Act, Bayelsa State Fiscal Responsibility Act, Bayelsa State Contributory Pensions Reform Act, and State Senior Secondary Schools Board Act.

Mr. Sylva said the laws were necessary for the state to benefit from the World Bank and other international donor agencies.

The governor said with prudence in the management of the state’s resources, there would be more funds at the disposal of the government for developmental projects.

The laws also form part of government’s effort to facilitate job creation, distribution of wealth, peace, and sustainable growth in the state, he said.

The Speaker of the state’s House of Assembly, Werinipre Seibarugu, said the introduction of the four bills demonstrated Mr Sylva’s commitment to transparency and good governance.
