The Murtala Mohammed Airport Command of the Nigeria Customs Service, on Wednesday, revealed that it remitted ₦26.4 billion into the federation account between January and October.

According to the command, the sum shows an improvement in revenue collection over the figures recorded for the same period of 2008, which stood at ₦23.3 billion, representing an 11.42 per cent increase.

“This to us is an achievement if viewed against the back drop of the current economic downturn and the banks special investigations and their fall outs,” said Ugo Dan, the command’s boss at its office in Lagos.

Mr. Ugo disclosed that the revenue generated by the command came from a series of anti-smuggling campaigns embarked upon by the customs officers.
