If any bank ED can afford to pay N100milion bail, they should be re-arrested.

Posted by Chinedu on Sep 14 2009

Stanley, you don't seem to realse the monumental sums these guys cornered for themselves. But in reality, a bank chief that earns about N7m per/month should be able to afford that confortably before even counting his runs and deals!! So its no biggie for them if you ask me.

How many bank MD'S earn up to 5M per month?

Posted by Usiayo Henry on Sep 14 2009

Those CEO would have been left in custody at least for them to have a taste of what the masses are suffering

Posted by Aliyu on Sep 14 2009

Honestly, bail to these MDs is tartamount to being discharged and acquited. They will frustrate serious investigative work.I would have love to get bail on Chrismax eve

Posted by Dokpe on Sep 14 2009

@ Usiayo Henry - which masses are suffering? No matter what wrong these guys have done, they deserve to be granted bail...if only because of the jobs they've created these past 10 years of our democracy. Please check out the records of our Government and these 5 banks and see who created more jobs......

GRANTING SOME OF THEM BAIL DEPENDED ON THE DECISION OF THE COURT BASED ON THE QUALIFICATION OF THEIR GUARANTEES....,AND THAT DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEY ARE TOTALLY FREE...,BUT IT IS A ''CONDITIONAL LIBERTY''THAT IS GIVEN TO SOME OF THEM--WHILE THE COURT CONTINUE TO PROCESS THEIR CASES.IT'S JUST THE BEGINING OF THE NEW NIGERIA. THANKS AND MAY GOD BLESS NIGERIA!!!

They still have to meet the condition of their bail.

It is very amazing how easy it is to divert the attention of the 'average' Nigerian from the real issues. No one asks questions, most people rely on what they are fed by the media. Why does Nigeria still lack electricity after 10 years of democracy. How many billions has been spent on the power sector and refineries in the past 10 years. Who collected the money. And like Dokpe said, how many jobs has the Gorvernment created in the past 10 years? No doubt that some of this people have a case to answer but rule of law must be obeyed.

I am 100% certain that with the granting of bail to the ex bank chiefs, their cases will no longer see the light of the day....Nigerians cannot get justice as it will take years before the cases are decided....I feel the judges should hear the cases within weeks...Bank rogues have won..chikenna.

those EDs should be dealt with, cos the loans were given out for self interest and the most painful aspect of it is they gave the loans to those who will not use it to better the lots of the common men,who contributed the substantial part of the deposits.did cecilia ibru get the private jet from her sitting allowances?

they deserve to be bail, its a process, its their right, these banks executives arent the real issues, they are just scape goats, Yardua administrations has failed beyond imaginations, the govt is just parading this banks chief to corner attention, actually, there is a problem, but i think sanusi with his hidden agend of the north is making bigger than the way it is, why cant Yardua get more interested in the case of harlibutton, semen scandals, and frauds, ex governor Bola Ahmed tinubu v mobiles sales, Ibori scam in Uk, Niger delta issues?, so Lukeman Rilwam is fit in the niger delta issue in the minds of the north, its a pity that our banks wil be sold to foreign companies who will never come to our country to build a bank from the scratch with all the alarming challenges on the grounds, now that the banks are there now, doing well, regardless of this short coming, the chinese firms is the next on cbn agenda to manage our banks, sanusi is taking Nigeria banking secotr back to slavery, and so funny a visionless , daft yardua administration is on the sleep, Poor masses of nigeria are less educated about the real issues, they are just beeing pushed here and there with these banks issues, nigerian masses, wake up from slumber, we need a revolutions, start by killing the nearest govt official next to you, its happening here in Isreal, the zionist wont allow isreal govt official give a plot to palestinian, they think their coming generations will face the problem, do we even have future in Nigeria?, at this age, we cant have standard electricity, no roads, no hospital not to talk of ambulance, a state in china is buying up Lagos state, investing in Ondo and ogun state, and we are praising fashola, though he is trying, just ordinary Zhenjian province in china is buying a big stakes of our company, we are going back to slave trade, what sanusi is doing in this ongoing world economic forum in china is taking us back to the economic slave trade, if at all the banks need be auctioned, why not europeans, why the chinese firms, am a resident of china, i know the danger, sanusi only visit china, wake up nigeria

it is funny this country we live in.the real crooks in the society,(politicians)are not held accountable for their dubious and satanic pilfering and impoverishing of the populace.Rather they walk about as free people. Also, this incident reveals how very uninformed and biased the bulk of our press(print media)is.Practically poisoning millions of avid readers(who also have displayed gross ignorance) with gross and distorted untruths.Bankers suddenly have become endangered species. Is it a crime to be employed in the banking business?why is the audit of other banks been kept under the carpet?Sanusi zeal devoid of knowledege and superior counsel/reasoning has proven dangerous to the entire economy as well as polity of the country. The international community is no longer honouring our letters of credit. Why is first bank raising 500billion?Sanusi should be sacked before he brings the economy to a standstill.

God bless you Ayodele & raphbrown for that powerful, courageous and sincerely truth nothing as being said so far that is more realistic and truthful as these two. Sanusi is a mad idiot. The problem of this country is much more than what he is laying attension on. Whats the fate of corrupt politicians?

Posted by Samuel on Sep 14 2009

Wow!its so ingrain that Nigerians miss the real issue. Akingbola has rightly said has provided more jobs, given out scholarships, provided hostels, the goodnews is being spread (bringing hope and better life?..... what has Yar adua and Sanusi done. I'm not saying the guy is perfect but check out the people casting the stones people. Dont you get it?

Mallam Sanusi (Islamic fundamentalist) & EFCC have not told us in clear terms what aspect of our laws these people have broken. So are some the commentators above suggesting they should be detained forever? It is very clear that there are a lot of ignorant people in Nigeria who just talk because the feel like talking. These men and women have been charged to court, is the offence they were charged for a bail able offence, the answer is YES, so why all the complains about the bail that was granted. If Mallam Sanusi (Islamic fundamentalist) & EFCC want to detain them forever then they should have frame them for treason. After all Mallam Sanusi & EFCC have succeeded in criminalising banking, lending and borrowing for commercial ventures and enterprises in Nigeria, free market economy, hence the move to Islamise the Nigeria economy and the banking industry. May God deliver the Christians, because by the time this Mallam Sanusi (Islamic fundamentalist) finished with them they won’t know where to start from.

SOMEBODY WHO DISBURSED N16 BILLION OF DEPOSITORS MONEY TO A FORMER HOUSEHELP,FOR NO APPARENT BUSINESS MOTIVE, WILL BE ABLE TO AFFORD N100 MILLION EASILY

Posted by Someone on Sep 14 2009

Finally, someone that makes sense, compared to the EFCC's conditions.

Posted by chikalove on Sep 14 2009

i completely agree with raphbrown that these bank MDs or the banks are not the real issues here. the government is the highest debtor to these banks running into trillions of naira obtained by various state governments in the form or bond etc. most of the contractors being owed by federal government till date borrowed money from these banks. why do we have the politicians like iyabo-bello obasanjo who was indicted for missappropriating money, the likes of tony anenih over 300billion on road rehabilitation, bode george and the others whose thievery skills are unequalled working free and unmolested in this country. No wonder the likes of Nuhu Ribadu will sneak into this country unnoticed beating the entire security apparatus. the other time, atlas cove was bombed right before the very presence of the entire apparatus of the nation. it is a pity. power is almost not working. yet we have 7 point agenda. not even one agenda can be pursued rigorously and achieved. naija, i don tire for this country.

@ Stanley. I know you're a Muslim Fulani from Northern Nigeria but you're so ashamed to use a name that shows your region of origin like many of your brothers. You Fulanis are always hiding your true identity because you know that you're evil. These bank chiefs are owners of these banks. Akingbola and Ibru founded their banks and through the dint of their hard work are rich. If Dangote can rid in jet, while should Southerners not be able to own jets also?

@ALL: Can't you all see the unfolding AFRICA MAGIC MOTION PICTURE? It is directed by CHICO EJIRO.....TO GOD BE THE GLORY.....WATCH OUT FOR PART TWO....SECOND BASE JARE!!! To put it in proper perspective, ask about the status of these cases: Boko Haram investigation; Government 'Tompolo' Ekpemupolo's "Visitors' Register" found at his Gbaramatu base; Halliburton probe in which a committee was commissioned; Ekiti rerun governorship bribery scandal for which an investigative committee was set up; Sanusi had promised to release the audit report of the remaining banks today, 14th Sept, 2009 which marks his first 100days in office...alas! no audit report... When you look at all these things and more, then you'd appreciate my initial sarcasm.

The offence allegedly committed is bailable. To deny them bail is to deny them their rights and invariably breaking the law.You cannot break the law to uphold the law. EFCC right from inception has been guilty of this. let's allow the rule of law to prevail like any normal society.

Posted by Dayo on Sep 14 2009

Thankfully, Nigerian courts still retain a semblance of decency and the rule of law.

@ raphbrown: please let's slow down with the xenophobia. It is unbecoming of a people who have millions of its own citizens earning their livelihoods and owning their own business abroad with minimum (if any) hindrance, including the many Nigerian banks and insurance companies that have bought up scores of their counterparts in several African countries. If the Chinese are bringing billions of their hard-earned dollars to directly invest in Nigeria (creating scores of Nigerian jobs in the process and generating needed revenue for the treasury), kudos to them. It's not like they are going to carry the free trade zone on their heads, if and when they ever leave. Btw, it is actually not mutually-exclusive to have both Chinese and European investment in Nigeria.

I am not moved i saw it comming the nigerian law can not hold such big fishes for anything, what happened to the list , why arrest them in the first place when you cant keep them locked up,same old story, sanusi watch your back, make your case no be like rebadu case

Posted by Dr. David Akin-Samuels on Sep 16 2009

It goes without saying that the bail is in order as it conforms with Article 5 UNCHR "Right to liberty", furthermore, it comforms with the process of law especially in criminal matters where the proof is that of "beyond every doubt" - The bail money is set and if comply with, there is no reason why they should not be granted their liberty at least until the case is fully investigated. However, such privilege should not be for the few but for everyone accused of criminal matter in Nigeria. Judicially, it could be said that Nigeria is functioning and no one should be above the law.
