The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has said it would halt the business activities of all airlines which collectively owe it over N1bn.

The agency's chairman, Abubakar Baraje said in Abuja that the debts were a backlog of airport taxes and ticket sales which the airlines had failed to pay NAMA for some years.

It was also reported that "plans have also reached advance stage to engage the services of professional debt recovery consultants to recover the debt."

According to Mr Baraje, these plans were geared towards generating more revenue for the agency.
