The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Adeyemi Ikuforiji said yesterday that though the Anambra governorship election was not as violent “as it used to be,” it was nevertheless marred with irregularities, especially with regard to the voters registers.
He also said the nation should not be deceived by the Peoples Democratic Party’s congratulatory message to Peter Obi, the declared winner. “We are no fools and will not allow the PDP to use Anambra election to deceive us,” said Mr. Ikuforiji who said his party will be better prepared for the 2011 general elections.
The Speaker was reacting to the message sent to Mr. Obi by the PDP’s flag bearer in the election, Chukwuma Soludo, and the Vice President, Goodluck Jonathan.
Tolani Alogba (Ibeju/Lekki II), who is a PDP member in the House said the congratulatory messages proved that “PDP is not saying elections must be won at all cost.”
Olamilekan Adeola (Alimosho II), however, said that INEC needs to explain why there were about 1.8 million registered voters but only about 300,000 cast votes.
“Our people (Action Congress supporters) were disenfranchised and could not vote,” he said.
Oludayo Fafunmi (Ifako Ijaye I), who said the election is one of the freest so far, believed the “best player” won the election.
Mr. Adeola disclosed that AC’s candidate, Chris Ngige, will be challenging INEC in court on the conduct of the election.
