It is both a shame and a risk that a man who presides of a country of Nigeria's population and geographical size and wealth cannot be attended to medically in his own country. If our president cannot be treated in Nigeria, what hope does the average man have when he falls ill? While as an individual, I wish him well, the more important story for me are the implications of a country that cannot serve the health needs of its most important citizen. The best universities and teaching hospitals in the world have produced Nigerian medical professionals. Why are they not good enough for the Yar'adua? Is it not a security risk as well? What if there were foreigners with the intention to act against the nation? He would be a sitting duck. I would rather our president siphoned public money to build his own personal hospital in Abuja, because at least it would be of use to the country after he were to leave, and we could save face instead of reading in the news every month that our leader has run off again to Germany or Saudi Arabia.

Atiku built a world class university in Yola with his own 'loot 'and all his children study there. this i think was informed by his struggle on the path of education and goes to show he genuinely wish better education to Nigerians. At the end of the day Yar adua certainly need to borrow a leaf from Atiku and do same by building a world class health institution. even if is in his father's compound. I wish him quick recovery.

@lade very true are your words. Let's hope such will come true. It's about time. The president should borrow more than one leaf...;-))

Lade, You said YA shud borrow a leaf from ATK , but left out the part of the loot in your conclusion.

I totally agree with you, Lade. Everyone knows politicians are greedy. Indeed you have to be to succeed in politics. I just believe that greed should push you to do something for your own place and your own people. Every American president has a library, school and museum built in his hometown. Presidents and politicians in other countries ensure that their areas are taken care of while they are in power. Only in Nigeria do our leaders take our money (legally and illegally) and go to spend or invest in other countries. Switzerland is a rich country only because of people like the African elite who fill their banks with stolen money. You cannot even count the number of houses in places like Maryland, Virgina and Orange County and Kensington that are owned by Nigerian public officials. I can understand sending your children outside to study, but going abroad to hospital is a bit too far. Next thing now, you will begin to hear that the president goes abroad to buy bread and milk.

UMYA is just another empty-head, bereft of ideas and any vision. imprisoned by his wife, the smugglers and his coterie of impotent advisers, he can't see the incongruity of attending at a public hospital in Saudi Arabia where the same petrol-dollars that they deploy to serve themselves. How can this mugun of a prez approve the building of airports and his own university in Katsina when it would have made more sense to at square up to providing 1st class health care for himself and others? UMYA should be shown the pictures of Yamoussoukro and Gbadolite today and pay heed to the legacy of the architects of those 'edifices'.

WONDERFUL THAT THESE ISSUES ARE BEING DISCUSSED ON THIS AND OTHER FORUMS. The only good thing that can come out of this is that the elected Officials of Nigeria sit down and think deeply about the SAD condition of the Nation, and worry less about how much they can steal within a month. The Internet has provided citizens the opportunity to express their views, something that the powers that be could never allow. There is no News paper to shut down, and the Millitary boys cannot beat the Internet senseless because of published articles. The First COLLEGE EDUCATED LEADER of Nigeria since ZIK was a welcome sigh of relief when he was elected president. There is no doubt that even GOD himself will have to make miracles to inject an ounce of common sense, pride and patriotism into Nigerian leadership, but things of MAJOR IMPORTANCE to any society have to be addressed with HASTE. ADEQUATE MEDICAL ATTENTION, ADEQUATE NUTRITION, ADEQUATE SECURITY and PROTECTION of the rights of Nigerian citizens, among other things, should be priorities of Nigeria's leadership, but we see these are all dreams and wishes. PRACTICALLY EVERY NIGERIAN who left for overseas for studies had the intention of getting back home as quickly as possible after studies, but the GOD DAMNED ILLITERATE MILLITARY VAGABONDS who have controlled Nigeria for the past 40 years made things IMPOSSIBLE for Nigerians to come home as they wish. Those who dared to come home found themselves unable to feed themselves after a few months, and if you dare fight the corruption in Nigeria, you will soon find out you are just a drop of fresh water thrown into an Ocean of Toxic waste water. UNFORTUNATELY, these issues have not been addressed by the civilian government of Nigeria, and of course, the ones trained at home get no jobs either. Like I said earlier, NIGERIA can and MUST do better it it wants to a Country to recon with.

It is easier said than done. If we were 2 b in Mr. President's shoes we would do exactly same. Trust me, it is hard 2 manage renal failure effectively in naija not to talk of one its complications Mr. President is having. But then Mr, President should by now have a good idea of wot millions of Nigerians suffering from renal failure are going through. A dialysis session costs N25,000 in a govt. hosp and these poor people must have a least at least once a week!. He definitely has to do something concrete to help average Nigerian in his shoes. If these things can happen to wet wood, how much more the dry ones!!!!

One would at least expected Alhaji Yaradua to have set up a world class hospital either within Aso rock or Abuja, based on his long time battle with his health. Why make a six hour trip out of the country to receive medical treatment when you set up the same standard of hospital in your country and save you all the stress? Penny wise, pound foolish. This should serve as a lesson for all Present Governors, Senators, LGA Chairmen etc, use your head. Think more of the people than yourselves. Less I forget, shame on all of you.

guys its not about been too aggressive on this issue, what you don't have and you needed the service you have to go where its there. Don't you think the national assembly are making things difficult for Mr. President? cos when He sends a bill they most at times don't even work on it no to talk of passing it cos the aim of the bill is for the masses to benefit. some idiots among you are busy running their mouths big while they are not even in the country, tell us the name of your fathers and grand-fathers and we'll tell you how they stole money and sent you to school in abroad that you don't want to come back. complaining of military, what did your parents do if they are justified let come back and prove their course
