Zain, a mobile telecommunication operator in Nigeria, has joined other networks in offering packages that allow subscribers to choose tariff plans that best meet their needs.

The offer was announced on Friday by the company's Chief Operating Officer, Khaled Khorshid, during a press conference held at Oriental Hotel, Lagos.

According to Mr. Khorshid, "the offer will take effect from August 1, 2009, to position the power to choose in the hands of the subscribers."

According to a statement from the company, the new Consumer Market Offer is called Zain Joli and "gives pre-paid customers the choice to determine their spending patterns and enable them decide on a particular package that best suit their needs according to their lifestyle."

The head of the marketing segments, Lampe Omoyele, who introduced the package said, "Zain Joli, the new default pre-paid tariff plan offers customers a chance to choose from the following options of the package: Joli People, Joli Padi, Joli Yans and Joli Yonda."

Speaking on why tariffs on local calls are more expensive than those on international, Mr. Khorshid said, "International tariff is low because it gives subscribers the benefit to make more international calls and enjoy better service than any other network."

Nosa Igharo, a subscriber who was present at the event told NEXT that, "The package is restrictive to customers; people don't have time to choose especially business people. I cannot have only Zain business friends' numbers on my phone to benefit from the offer, so Zain should look into an offer that goes across- broads and not restrictive".

He added that the International call rate is great and do not think any other network would beat the tariff.
