Dora threatens to sue Aondoakaa

Print print Email email Share Share

The Minister of Information and Communication, Dora Akunyili, has threatened to sue the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister for Justice, Michael Aondokaa, for defamation.

In a statement issued by the ministry, Mrs. Akunyili gave Mr. Aondoakaa, seven days to refute what was described as a ‘libellous statement' against her person.

In a report by a national newspaper on February 8, Mr. Aondokaa allegedly accused Mrs. Akunyili of trying to make herself an angel and a cheap hero who wants to be seen as a populist. "Let her go confront herself with what happened in NAFDAC," the minister was quoted to have said.

Mrs. Akunyili urged Mr. Aondokaa to refute the statement or face prosecution.

The development is a fallout of last week's meeting by the Executive Council of the Federation.

At the meeting Mrs. Akunyili had presented a memo on the need for the Executive Council to do the right thing as regards the president's health, to the annoyance of some ministers including Mr. Aondokaa, who said she did not follow due process.

LET THE REAL DORA PLEASE STAND UP! However to sound a note of caution, these are not drug barons hiding in the foxholes of onistha market, scared of coming out into the (lime)light and have their identities exposed. No ma,you are dealing with people who will kill at the slightest threat to their continued criminal grip on power. I would beg you stay on in the cabinet so as to anger aondokaa to make him become even more mad and prone to verbal diarrhoea that will eventually convict him,his supporters in the FEC and ultimately yardua! We will pray you survive their assassins.

What is Dora upto, in the first place she should'nt have taken the appointment. For me she has robbished all are archivement while in NAFDAC for joining this kind of government. I belive she only look for cheap popularity at this time. If she was couragous enough she should have voice out before now, what was she thinking since the last 70 days or thereabout before talking, infact if you can remeber she was very vocal and in the defence of the FEC on the Yaradua issue. For me i have lost hope in her and i am placing her in the same category of the usual and normal nigerian politician.

This woman is a nuisance. Anytime I see her on TV the first thing I do is turn the volume down. I can’t stand the shouting and the drama always acting. It’s not about you Aunty Dora it’s about the good of the country .Just when we thought were moving forward you go looking for something to keep you in the papers . Your pathetic and shameless and do not understand anything about politics. You are no saint and can never speak for the good of the people. If you believe that you have a point resign and be a voice for the opposition like Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

Aondoakaa is a gunner and Akunyili will have the last laugh but she should literally use his nose to blow horns like the Yoruba adage by dragging him to court. It is a case of a corrupt person (Aondoakaa) trying to drag another person into the mud. By their dull court wigs we shall know them.

Yar'Adua should have appointed people who know at least one or two things about diplomacy. Why is it that two ministers of the same cabinet are communicating (arguing) with each other via newspapers? Why can't they hash out their problems at the table and present a united front with viable solutions in the public square, regarding the state of the presidency? No one really is in the mood for this soap opera where there are real issues to deal with. These two are really making this about themselves.

Dora Akunyili and Michael Aondokaa = (equal to) Confusion confounded. These semi-metaphysical systems are one and all pantheistic, and savour of pandemonium, a house divided against itself. Finite mind manifests all sorts of errors, and thus proves the material theory of mind in matter to be the antipode of mind. Who hath found finite life or love sufficient to meet the demands of human want and woe, - to still the desires, to satisfy the aspirations? Infinite mind cannot be limited to a finite form, or mind would lose its infinite character as inexhaustible love, eternal life and omnipotent truth.

Will someone please remind Madam Dora that you must first have character and regard amongst right-thinking, disinterested members of society as the basis for a claim in defamation. Are these qualities that members of this Executive Council can truly claim? Anyway, will she seek the Acting President's permission before she sues her colleague? Maybe he should fire both of them so that they have enough time to prepare their legal fireworks.

Should Dora resign? no resign and leave Aondoakaa there? God forbid, let her stay and do her job. If Dora had been misbehaving and collecting money, she would not have had the guts to do what she did, since God had used the NAFDAC assignment to toughen her, this is the time to demonstrate what God has raised her for.

Dora is absolutely correct. Cabinet ministers cannot rubbish each other in public. I would expect Acting President Jonathan to now bring both to order - especially the AGF. There is the concept of collective responsibility - without doubt Dora broke this by 'going public', however the attack by AGF was against her and not her actions. He is a street thug made good.

@Amiinu Mu'azu, Sokoto. I am dissapointed at your statement. I have always been saying that the major problem we have in this nation is the NORTH being part of Nigeria. Very unfortunate that we are together, for we are not enjoying anything for being together. It's highly embarrassing for you to alter such unprofessional, ungodly and above all inciting statement, ''that the North will never recognise Jonathan as president''. What are you people up to? Do you think you can hold this nation to ransom at your stupid and selfish act? Does the Holy Qur'an preaches your actions as mostly exhibited in the North? It's a big dissapointment. I pray to God that if our being together will not bring peace and tranquility to this nation, He should separate us to live in peace. If that is the solution!

@Nurudeen and other Northern bashers. Pls do not exhibit ur ignorance here. Must you use every opprotunity to cast aspersion and show your hatred for the North? Who says Aminu Muazu (Sokoto) is representing the North? Most Nigerians including Northerners supported a constitutional and orderly transfer of power to the VP. Do you think the House/Senate would have passed yesterday's motion if the North was against it. All 57 senators from the North except Senator Lado supported the motion. If u had followed the issue u will have known that most of the support for the VP to act came from the Northern political elite. The Yardua kitchen cabinet that stalled the process did that for selfish reasons only. May Allah guide Jonathan in the discharge of his duties.

Has anyone noticed that whenever "Dora" is mentioned, we think Ms Akunyili! Like Oprah and Hilary, she doesn't need a surname anymore! "There is only ONE DORA", a testament to her good work as the Food and Drug Czar of Nigeria. Although her association with the current government had threatened to undo all that. I hope that her recent stance on the Yar'Adua issue will clean up her image, but I think she needs to resign in order to get back to our near spotless perception of her.

Posted by Nurudeen on Feb 10 2010

@Abubakar Bapetel. The issue here is very clear! I take exception to your word of ''ignorance''. I have been following the events as they unfolds. Is the kitchen cabinet comprise of the Southerners? or those who are not in support of the right thing to be done at the national assembly are southerners? What % of the members of the national assembly is the north to the south and what % of those in support of a wrong thing are notherners and southerner to the overall members? Am sure by arithmetic calculations, you get the correct answer and make your judgement ''fairly''. Why has it taken the NASS 78days to arrive at this conclusion? The national assembly only backed down on their earlier stand because they have seen the hand writing on the wall with regards to the reactions of the international communities, labour union, civil society groups and the likes including the recent outburst by Dora. They had an agenda with the kitchen cabinet! We all know the truth but we only shy away from it because of selfish interest, hatered and lack of focus. Does Aminu Muazu's statement shows he is a southerner? If PDP has an unwritten agreement on rotational presidency that is not in consonant with the constitution of Nigeria, it is deemed to be null and void with the present predicaments. Let's stop fooling ourself! One thing I know is that if it's a southerner that is in power and we have the same scenario, the same set of organisation will go against it and surely, larger % of the southerner particalarly the south west will have a strong position against the ungodly act. Have you taken your time to ask yourself what motive is behind Yar'adua not doing the proper thing or Anakonda or whatever is name is not allowing the proper thing to be done? I am a muslim, and majority of the these hipocrates from the north are muslims. Islam does not permit us to do what they are doing. You need to talk to them (your brothers) to desist from this unwholesome act. Allah forbids it! And you know that. Lets begin to say the truth and move this nation forward as one entity for us to enjoy. If we can't get the required peace of our marriage, I think we should pray for disintegration for us to have peace.

Posted by Dare Taiwo on Feb 10 2010

Guys, What I take exception to is our attitude to add ethnic coloration to everything. What happened in the last 78 days was not a disagreement between the North and South, It was a war between good and evil. The Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) was at the fore front of bodies calling on President Yar'adua to transmit presidential power to the now Acting President. Even from the South, the East to be precise, the Eastern Governors Forum, in their ever subservient attitude to the Government in Power, no matter the ethnicity of the occupier of the high office, even supported that the status quo be maintained. A South-South Governor was known to have worked against the transfer of power to Dr Jonathan. Even Speaker Bankole is on record as one of the Honourables that almost stood down the House Resolution. You can not then in all fairness use the kitchen cabinet consisting of four Northerners to judge the whole region. I for one thank the northern elders, elites, the Northern Governors, Senators and Honourables, the Youth Movements for joining hands together to prevent the truncation of the forth Republic and for the few that worked against it, We thank God that Good triumphed over them at last.

Posted by Abubakar Bapetel on Feb 10 2010

@Nurudeen: You incorrectly assume: 1- Aminu Muazu is speaking for the whole North 2- That the Kitchen cabinet even though is made up Northerners also represent the opinion of the North 3- That only the Southern civil society put pressure for Goodluck to take over. 4. Northerners all belong to one single political bloc 5. Southerners are more progressive and thus less biased The fact is Nigerians from all over the country asked for the decent thing to be done and our "elected" parliament eventually caved in. Please grow up and engage widely with your other countrymen so that u can rid urself of prejudices and pre-conceived notions. Nigeria in 2010 is not the Nigeria of 1960 of even 1993. Godbless 9ja!

Mr Aondoakaa has insinuated that there is something Madam Dora Akunyili had done in NAFDAC that is smelly. We have been shielded from knowing for this long. When the AGf subsumed Dora's own porfolio,he obviously irritated Dora whose inordinate ambition to be in the corridors of power knows no limit. It is the clash of interests rather than bravery or gallantry that persuaded Dora to prepare for the cabinet show. Now Mr Jonathan is seating as the President of Nigeria and promised AGAIN that he will fight corruption,we expect him to start from within hie household and cabinet. We challenge Aondoakaa to EXPOSE Dora AND DORA to sue him if he does not. Then Mr president has to kick them out of the cabinet first to allow the cleaning of the stable to begin.Neither Dora nor Aondoakaa is worthy of remaining in that cabinet if the new helmsman knows his onions

Posted by C.C on Feb 10 2010

@Nurudeen, i respect your analysis and your opinion. The problem we have with the north is that their so called elites purposely under-developed their people to perpectuate the slavery and political grip on their masses. Education is the great liberator. Why hasn't the northern rulers in the past invested in the education of their people. They've ruled Nigeria most of the time yet, the northern masses remain pitifully undeveloped, uneducated, unhealthy and poor! We should rather pray for the liberation of our northern brothers and sisters from their enslaving czars.

His [Andoka]interview with CNN this afternoon showed he can no longer make any statement now without contradicting himself. It will be nice to have this issue thrown into the courts where Nigerians can see/judge each minister without his/her ministerial authority. By the way as suggested earlier, they should both step aside while that is sorted out.

If she had brought the memo earlier, Nigerians would have turned against her because by then no body knew Yaradua's situation will last this long this time around. Lets praise her for her courage. We need people like her.

We dont need disintegration because of this small test. Every individual and nation undergoes some test ones in a while. So we Nigerian has seen our test, with one mind we are resolving it amicably. It is not uncommon in a family for there to be a disagreement and name calling as we see from our two ministers. All we know is that PDP as a party should be made to suffer the implication of what they have done to Nigeria as a nation. Rightly they have suffered it in Anambra State, so the trend has started, their in- fighting can not distract us, be it ministers or not, PDP must go!!!!

The issue here is the childishness ad unprofessional behaviour of Aondoakaa(Anaconda). If there's any truth to what he has said, the channel and manner of the communication is not befitting of a chief law officer of a country. If there is anything Aondoakaa know Dora did in NAFDAC that was criminal, he should go to court. How can Aondoakaa in his position behave like a vindictive primary school child? In any good society, people will definitely question the AGF's attitude. As for the alley-cat who said that North(or whatever it's called) will not support Jonathan, those in the North who hold such views should start going back to Sahara Desert where the rightly belong.

Dora's actions might be lae. But better late than never. This is the same problem we keep havinf; looking for the right solution at wrong place. Dora is a conveyer of information. Her utterances are expected to be SCRIPTED. Problem is why did she take the job in the first place? But once you are in the system, you have to pledge 100% loyalty. Apparently, Dora knows what she wants. And that is a different issue. Now that things are beginning to unfold, and really messy, she is taking actions which is good. I don't even know of any man there that is acting like a man! Including the Acting President. I think he is compromizing a lot. She is the only person I know in government now that has our interest. GOOD LUCK MADAM!!!0
