The authority of the University of Nigeria, Nsukka has recalled its students sent home during the January 16 protest against alleged increases in tuition and accommodation fees.

A statement by the university’s Acting Registrar, Anthony Okonta, in Nsukka on Monday said that final year and post-graduate students would resume on February 10 while others would resume on the 15th.

It said all final year students would start their examinations on February 15 while other students would start theirs on the 19th.

The statement said the decision to recall the students was the outcome of the emergency meeting of the institution’s Governing Council on February 5, which also directs the returning students to present two letters of undertaking, one from their parents and another from them, promising to be of good conduct throughout their stay on the campus, as pre-conditions for re-admission.

The school also announced the suspension of students union activities on the campus, pending the full restoration of normal academic activities.

who is going to pay for the damages?

the school authorities seem to have resorted to the resumption requirements earlier in this decade during cult activities. However, this matter is different as this stance shows that they have no regard for the welfare or rights of the students. Why was there no forum for dialogue with the students before the fees were raised and why is there no consideration for the students' performance in their exams with this exam scheduling? Something really needs to be done about how universities in Nigeria are run with regard to student welfare and rights.

If the V C the person of prof B N Okolo can increase acceptance free from N6000 to N25000, in less that 7 months in office as VC and University secondary school by 125% he should not remain as V C of that Great University. Other Federal university like Uniben,Ife,Ibadan,Ilorin etc acceptance and school fees put together is not up N25000. How can he increase acceptance from N6000 last year to N25000 this year, so the children of poor masses will get university education. The N25000 collected from the newly admitted students and he told the nation that the acceptance is N2500, so he should refund the balance and those who could not afford it should be allowed to pay N2500. He has cause delay in the school system. He note that the poor masses will not allow him to go free

Now that we are called back, is it on what ground? Can he stil remain as the Vc or not? Aluta Nigerian student's opinion should be considered. If we need him not again, and he came back, the problem wil stil bd there. Why must we write a letter of undertaken which we did during admission? Vc should call congress and address us if he wil stil be the Vc oh! Its wel. doskey
