The Nigerian Governors Forum said yesterday in Abuja that it considers Vice President Goodluck Jonathan as the acting president and praised the way he has handled the office so far.
The forum, which is headed by the Kwara State governor, Bukola Saraki, said in a communique issued after its meeting that it “identifies with the judgment of the courts on the same and agrees that the position of Acting (President) could be either verbal or written and the Vice President has been appropriately acting admirably.
The meeting which deliberated on the state of the nation as well as the Jos crisis, asked government agencies to support Mr. Jonathan.
“The Forum calls on all arms of governments to continue to give full and total support to the Acting President until the President returns in the interest of our dear and beloved country, Nigeria,” the communiqué read.
“The Forum also resolved to meet the leadership of the National Assembly with a view to urging them to pass a resolution to formally recognize the Vice President as the Acting President in the interest of the nation.”
The governors also promised relief materials to the victims of the Jos crisis, which they said was not a religious crisis but one stirred by ethnic and political motives.
