President Yar'Adua leaves for Saudi Arabia

Print print Email email Share Share

With a pending imbroglio in the National Assembly and House of Representative over the venue of the presentation of the 2010 budget, the Nigerian president has again left the country for Saudi Arabia.

He however did not leave the 2010 budget presentation unattended to as he forwarded the copies of the 2010 National Appropriation Bill to the senate president and the speaker of the house of representatives for them to do with it as they please.

According to the special adviser to the president on media and publicity, Olusegun Adeniyi, in a statement released earlier today, said the president will be leaving for the Saudi Kingdom.

He said "President Umaru Musa Yar'Adua will leave Abuja today for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.

While there, the President will call on to his personal physicians in Jeddah for follow-up medical checks."

The president has gone on several trips to the Saudi Kingdom for his health checkups and other matters since his administration kicked off in 2007.

This is the third time he will be going to Saudi this year. He had earlier made a trip on the 14 August 2009 for medical checks and another trip on the 22 September to commission the King Abdullah University of Science and Technology within which time he visited his doctors.

Mr. Adeniyi added that "Meanwhile, President Yar'Adua has forwarded copies of the 2010 National Appropriation Bill to the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives."

Is there no one courageous enough in Nigeria to advise the sickly president to simply resign and hand over to his VP? I thought Abacha's exit in 1998 is a lesson in history.

Posted by Joe on Nov 23 2009

Mr President is obviously very sick, he hasnt been visible in the last 4 weeks including missing the final of the U-17 championship in which we the host were playing for Gold and missing the budget presentation. How much more can he take? Third trip in 4 months?

The ill health of Mr. President is affecting the well being of the country seriously. What Obasanjo bequeathed to Nigeria is not the best at all. It is a crime against humanity.

Posted by saydura on Nov 23 2009

I really pity our President with his ailing health. May the Lord perform that miracle of healing and stop this frequent travelling which in itself is killing. I blame Aremu Obasanjo for putting our 'Umoru' with a heavy burden. Enjoy yourself while it last

If the President was a serious fellow, he could have established a correct medical facility in Nigeria to look after him instead of flying far away to get treatment. Is healthcare part of the 7 point agenda? The President can take the honourable path of throwing in the towel instead of taking the task of ruling a complex State like Nigeria.

he even looks sick getting on d plane.....

Our leaders are operating under a curse. In other words, they are cursed people. For example, why would any human being, with all the money and personnel (resources) Nigeria has got, prefer to shuttle to Saudi Arabia, Europe and America, for regular treatment and medical check-ups when you can easily build a similar, if not better, world class hospital in your own country? Since this is clearly not ignorance, it has to be a curse.

It is pathetic. I pity the man, yet I wonder why he would not just excuse himself from this aggro. May be they should beg Turai and all those who have put him in shackles. This is just too much for one man

It couldn't be more obvious that Nigeria is the last thing on the mind of this president.

Posted by US_Yankee on Nov 23 2009

To everyone who say's he should resign, this is why he has not resigned...How else would he get first class medical treatment, first class travel on the minute? this is a disservice to Nigeria, he needs to be impeached on medical grounds, what more evidence do people need that he is very sick man? We deserve better, Nigeria deserves better!

Must the President go to Saudi Arabia every time? Can't the Saudi doctor come and meet him here?

kai! i dont get it. if his administration had done something about healthcare the moment he got into office, i dont think he'll be on his way to saudi arabia right now. If the healthcare system was in place and intact i dont see any reason why the president would have to go to another country for medical checkups. do we ever hear of the president of other countries going outside for medical care? NO!!..i dont see any reason why tax payers shoule have to pay for Mr Yar'adua's medical expenses overseas when he may as well get them here. i believe there are experts in the Nigeria too that can help him out.

The president is sick, he could not withstand the rigours of standing for long while presenting the 2010 budget. PDP created the 'imbroglio' between the two Chambers to enable the sick president escape the presentation. He has jetted out of Naija again. I hope this man would not be the next president that will die in office.

Despite the ongoing uproar between the both Houses of the National Assembly that president Ya'adua could still have jettison his constitutional duty for a trip to Saudi kingdom.Having acknowledged the fact that Mr president is fighting cancer of the kidney and that does not disturb him from the presentation of the 2010 budget now that we have 40days countdown to a new year. The leadership of the pdp should be blame profundedly for escalating the face-off between the lower and upper legislative Assembly.I also commend the effort of General Jeremiah Useni led Arewa Consulative forum for their bold initiative towards compeling president Ya'adua to resign from office over his ill-health which they believe could be a peril to National growth and socio-political development of the country. The incessant visit of the president to Saudi Kingdom is an indication that our beloved president is gradually biding his fellow countrymen and women goodbye as his health can no longer carry him to surmount the increasingly sophisticated level of demage which cancer of the kidney has done to his weaken body system. This to some extent is a wake-up call that our beloved country is sitting on a gun-powder if Mr president dies before the expiration of his tenure of office.Nigerians should not forget to eulogise the first lady for her support towards ensuring that the president remains alive and fulfilling her electoral promises most especially the seven point agenda which is becoming a broad spectrum of social programme run by the government. However, history will never forgive Ya'adua if he dies without the full Implementation of the Justice Lawal Uwais electoral panel report which the president himself has doctored beyond a reasonable control, the constitution amendment is another failure from the stable of Ya'adua administration as the exercise is mirage and a debacle process.I urge Nigerians to pray relentedly so that God will keep the president alive to complete his unproductive administration.I believe Obasanjo is very happy with the predicament of the president ill-health which he knew could give birth to the emergence of Mr Goodluck Jonathan as president if perphas the president join his ancessor. The elevation of Jonathan as president is an automatic ticket for the fulfilment of the third term agenda which Nigerians believe it is dead since the useless old cargo called Obasanjo is out of the system forgetting the fact that Goodluck Jonathan remains accountable to Obasanjo than the Nigerians state which he represent.I'm afraid,Umaru Musa Ya'adua has embark on a journey towards extinction and that reasonablly means that our president meant not survive this time around and I appeal to Mr Olusegun Adeniyi to brief the press once again so that the level of aprehension and anxiety in the land would reduce and will degenerate into something on bearerable.May God save our country from any form of evil plan aganist the Nigerian state.WOE to the PDP,the nest of killers.FADUMIYE ADEYINKA MACINTOSH WRITE FROM POLITICAL SCIENCE DEPARTMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ADO-EKITI.

Nigerian doctors cant treat him, or do you want some medical coup d'etat

Posted by Leonards Onyekwere on Nov 23 2009

This is what the President's media or publicity diectors should have done in the past. Tell Nigerians truthfully that President Yaradua was in Saudi Arabia for medical reasons because we are all humanbeings. I hope that everything will go fine for the Nigeria leader and that he will get the medical attention that he need without worrying about those that want to force him out of office based on ill heath. Where things are done right, all Yaradua need are good, knowledgeable and efficient men around him and the task of delivering good leadership will be attained. That is what is lacking and that is what he should have reached back to Amino Kano deciples to select because PDP do not have them and can not deliver good government because PDP is a GKK outfit.

Two copies of the budget speech one for the "distinguished" and one for the "honourable". Smart Alec, Yar'Adua, burning a candle from both ends.Even when two elephants make love the grass still suffers.

I did not think that the President can not go for medical checkup in another country: Many of us are sick and are living on medication and not only the president so he should be left alone afterall his kitchen cabinet (Andokaa) is standing for him.

Posted by Abanikonda on Nov 24 2009

Need I say more, the President of this country doesn't believe in our medical facilities; what a terrible shame, even Maradona(IBB) has no choice than to send his wife to California, USA. Our money is always at their disposal to waste. Health Minister, Dr. Oshotimehin already said that wealthy Nigerians are spending over $300 million dollars yearly, looking for better health overseas. University Teaching Hospital Ibadan, used to be one of the best 10 medical schools in the World, but our corrupt leaders destroyed the reputation. IBB and Obasanjo squandered the money needed to upgrade our medical facilities. God will deal with them accordingly.

Posted by Erastus Oluyemi on Nov 24 2009

At least this time they are wise to say he has gone for medical treatment not folktales like "higher" or "lesser" Hajj or that he is commissioning borehole in Saudi. The unfortunate thing is that i can see madam president waving from the plane, so who is in charge? This man should be noble enough to spare this nation what we are going through; 28 per cent budget implementation, unspent funds, low capacity utilization. No motion, no movemnet

Personally, like some of the comments have done, I would like to pray for the president for the safe return from Saudi Arabia where has always gone for treatment. What keeps disturbing me is the fact that he keeps going to another country for medical attention. Why not his country where he is also supposed to be the head? What is wrong with the hospitals and the doctors in Nigeria? I believe some of the doctors in our beloved country could do better than the ones he runs to for salvation, at Saudi Arabia or somewhere else, every time the illness comes calling if only they are equiped and the hospitals are up-to-date and functioning. That Saudi Arabia's doctors and hospitals are functioning because someone is ruling well. We in that Nigeria, both the rulers and the subjects, behaves like fools who don't know their worth. Is either that some deranged politicians are stealing money or Mr. President is wasting the money on some socalled monthly medical checks yet no one questions anyone. I love that country where everybody does what is right in his or her own eyes. Up till this moment there is no official information about whatever is ailing the President. Don't we think the deranged people of this deranged country governed by some group of deranged Nigerians have the right to be informed of the mysterious desease ailing our deranged president? Well we all know that nothing good is expected of a group of deranged people. Life goes on my brother thief Bode George.

THE QUESTON... It's so unbearable that our country have to go back and forth; over and over again. The mostly annoying of all events was when ASUU had the 'salary scheme' stress; our students were @ home doing virtually nothing...then, our CHAIRMAN had to commission a foreign University under this plight...it's so CRAZY...Nothing has turned good in his administration... NOW THE QUESTION... How can a sick President heal a Sick Nation?

Posted by Don G on Nov 26 2009

I heard the sick president is dead there in saudi arabia, plz tell me its not true. Bye the way, why did he leave all the ''BEAUTIFUL HOSPITALS'' he built, for another in Saudi Arabua? Well, what he didnt get ahome, he shouldnt expect it elsewhere. YES!

People who think that the best President is from their family should pray for The President Umar Musa Yar'adua to live long and fulfill God's will for mankind and especially for Nigeria. I am going to assure the president one thing,"Those who wish him death will not die but live to see his excellency survive all forms of attack" The Fact is that, they are jealous and wicked, how can you wish the president of a great country like Nigeria death? Its totally bad, No body can Imagine it. Nigeria, we should learn to pray for success and God's Gift and grace, we should also pray for our selves for growth and economic stability. I love Nigeria and its citizens.

Nigerians, Let us pray for the President to get well other than criticizing him, I love the president, and he is fit to rule, he more or likely a leader or than a ruler. We shall never have someone like him if our prayers did not help save him. THIS IS A WARNING, IF YOU ARE WISHING THE PRESIDENT DEATH, YOU ARE INVOKING THE CAUSE OF GOD, THE CAUSE OF AMADIOHA AND OTHER DEITIES AROUND YOUR FAMILY AND GENERATION. If the man is very sick there are other patriotic leaders that can take over or the president does not trust his own vice. Let the vice president take over and the president should go and rest. Nigeria must go forward. May my GOD be with the Mr President AMEN.
