Soludo decries plan to conduct council elections

Chukwuma Soludo, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the 2010 governorship election in Anambra, has condemned the ongoing arrangement by Governor Peter Obi to conduct local government elections before the governorship poll.

Addressing a PDP forum organised by the party's new caretaker committee, in Awka, on Thursday, Mr. Soludo said ``Obi should rather occupy his time with preparing a handover note in readiness to leave office''.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr. Obi had, on Tuesday, presented a list of the new members of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission for ratification to members of the state House of Assembly.

Mr. Soludo said the action was a ploy by the governor to mobilise APGA chairmanship hopefuls to garner support for him.

He said: ``Obi did not conduct the election when he was a year in office, neither did he conduct it when he clocked two years. Is it now that he has less than three months to go that he will do it?

The former CBN governor also spoke to party members on why he seeks to govern the state.

"I was somewhere and people were arguing that I should have gone to UN, World Bank or anywhere else, rather than coming to mess myself up with Anambra politics.

``I told them that if Jesus could come down and be messed up for man to gain salvation, why would I, a mere human being not accept it.

``My dream to turn Anambra to Dubai or Taiwan of Nigeria and Africa is real. We must employ our money to do the right thing for our people."

SOLUDO AS YOUR NAME IMPLIES, GOD WILL SURELY DISTROY ALL ENEMIES OF PEACE ON YOUR ROAD.I KNOW THAT AT THE END OF THE DAY YOU WILL WIN. WE NEED PEOPLE LIKE IN ANAMBRA. KUDOS!!!

If Soludo is sure of what he is saying and not just a mere propaganda in order to win the election, then he should be given a chance. He did fairly in CBN, he could do better as governor of a state. But Anambarians should be cautious of dubious politicians in Anambara State as people in the past had promised heaven and earth and at the end had disapointed the electorates. They should remember the story of once beatten twice shy. Than you.

Whether his emmergence as PDP Flag Bearer is by election appointment, selection or whatever form, Chukwuma Soludo is the right, best and most qualifield candidate for the office of Governor, Anambra State. I therefore appeal to all Anambrarians to support and give him a chance to pilot the affairs of our State. I have no doubt in my mind that he will not deliver on his promises, ideas and plans for our dear State in particular and Nigeria in general. Just a simple reminder, the Bank Consolidation Policy and the attendant development of the Banking industry in Nigeria. For once, we should call a spade, a spade and set aside ethnicity, tribalism, nepotism, favouratism etc and try to support this young Nigerian of Ibo origin, a great 'lion' who has great vision and plans for our country vis-a-viz "NEEDS". Finally, I would wish to remark that I do not know Mr. C. Soludo in person and infact has never met him before, neither do I know his hometown/community in Anambra State. Again I am not a member of any political party and therefore the views expressed above is based on my understanding of events in this country for the past 30 Years.

Dubai or Taiwan indeed, we have seen how you turned our banking industry into something else, Lamido's investigations will soon find you out. Continue.

I love Soludo but sometimes I question his choice of politics. You will think as an ex University Professor, the University community including Students, Lecturers, and all teachers in Anambra including colleges and schools will be his political base. But he has not done much to woo this group to his base all he does is to keep dropping the names of Elite politicians. This is not the change we seek, the change we seek is bottom-up politics, not elitist politics. When will u mobilise the Teachers Union? Student bodies? Anambra chapter of the NLC? Onitsha Business Men? that is how to win an election not announcing Jonathan Goodluck who should have something else doing as your committee chairman.

How can we trust you? Saying that someone asked you to go UN or World bank is not the answer to the Nigerian banking system that you left in a mess. Untill Nigerians find out the role you played in the scandal of ploymer bribe, then we will be able to ascertian you true color.Smooth talk cannot take you to Awka State house. You need to give account of your first leadership before we can trust you with another. I have learned not to follow their words but their deeds. Your movement have proved who you are and who you are going to be in the future. For now forget about making Anambra the next Dubai but start preparing your defence for polymer scandal. We want the incumbent to continue from where he stopped. Your tenure for Anambra will be marred with central bank scandal and the progress of our state will derailed. Anambra State does need people with sekeleton in their colossets any more. Enough is enough.

If you have such great ideas Prof Soludo, then you shouldn't be afraid of a free and fair primary process. That's democracy!!!!

Posted by Rems Micheal on Nov 20 2009

For the records, Soludo was never against a free and fair primaries. Those who went to court to stop the process from happening in the first place are.

I really wonder what is wrong with the Nigerian state! President Yar' adua sometime in the past acknowledged that he came into power through a foul means/process and that he was going to right the wrongs for subsequent elections. But here we are and right within his party-PDP, Soludo emerged their flag bearer for Anambra state PDB governorship flag-bearer 'selection' without passing through due process. Even with his position as the leader of the party, he was not able to ensure that PDP enjoys due process in the selection of their flag bearer in the forthcoming Anambra state governorship elections!? This is very disappointing and indeed sends the wrong signal. Both FGN and INEC should quickly cancel the candidature of Soludo else they want to breed a monster which they won't be able to control in the future because a precedent is being set for other states/parties to emulate. A word they say is good enough for the wise.

The fact of the case is that Soludo will not do anything tangible in Anambra. Why he is busy boasting is because he trusts PDP rigging machinery to deliver Anambra to him. Those he promised will get their money trapped in his induced failed banks within 3 months are still waiting. He kept on promising depositors of banks to sleep with their eyes closed not knowing that his plans was really to make sure they are blind in which case it does not matter wherther they sleep or not as you will not notice a difference.

Pls my financial oracle, be careful of the people you will be working with. look do not jeopadise your hard built reputation with this PDP nonsence of a party. <look soludo, most of us are proud of you but PDP is the worst thing the contry has experienced. so trade your part carefully or have join the idea of jioning them if you cannot win them. that state and other state infact the contry in general need God. timobest@live.com

This guy is a fake. He's just gonna chop and clean mouth like the rest of them. He's boastful and such don't make things happen. I pray he succeeds anyway. Wish him the best

WITH ALL THE HUMAN RESOURCES AT ITS DISPOSAL, ANAMBRA HAS LOST TOO MUCH TIME TO THE UNWRITTEN CONSPIRACY ARISING FROM THE ENVY OF ITS POTENTIAL, SOLUDOS COMING IS THE RIGHT CHANCE TO PUT ANAMBRA WHERE IT SHOULD TRULY BELONG.....FORWARD SOLUDO!!!

Prof. Soludo may mean well, and passionate about transforming Anambra State to another Dubai, however, the mandate to fulfilling the dreams should be sought through a credible and fair process. Unfortunately, his selection process as the flag bearer of his party is fraught with a lot of controversies which may make one to conclude that he's only pursuing a selfish agenda, or unknowingly taking the route that may make his dreams unrealiseable. No matter how passionate he may be, he will surfer a legitimacy crisis if the process that produce him lacks credibility. A cue may be taken from the legitimacy crisis of the current administration in Ekiti State. The action of Governor Peter Obi of setting up Electoral Committee should be looked into with a legal lens with the a view of ascertaining any wrong doing or breach of any law. In the absence of running foul of any law, the best Prof. Soludo can clamour for is a free and fair electioneering process and not to harangue the sitting Governor for performing his constitutional role. People like Professor Soludo are needed in the political landscape of Nigeria, but no without decency, otherwise, it makes no difference.

TRULY GOD HAS OPENED THE ANAMBRA CASE AND AS THE SUPREME JUDGE, WILL COME OUT WITH PROF. SOLUDO AS THE VERDICT AND SOLUTION. EVERYTHING WILL WORK OUR WELL. BY THIS TIME NEXT YEAR - 2010, ALL OUR PEOPLE RUNNING AWAY FROM KIDNAPPERS, INSECURITY, WILL BE SAFELY HOME. THANKS TO THE UPCOMING SOLUDO'S SOLUTION IN 2010. AS A VICTIM, HE WILL PROFFER THE SOLUTIONS AND INVESTORS WILL RETURN, JOBS, WEALTH WILL BE CREATED. OUR YOUTHS WILL VACATE THE STREET HAWKING, OTHER VICES, FOR SCHOOLS ENROLMENTS AND GAINFUL EMPLOYMENTS. MEANINGFUL PEOPLE BE SCARED BUT WILL BE INTERESTED AND INVOLVED IN OUR DELICATE, POLITICAL DECISIONS OF THE FUTURE OF THE IGBO MAN. I TRUST THIS GURU SOLUDO. HE HAS DONE IT BEFORE AND WILL DO IT AGAIN AND AGAIN. OUR PEOPLE SHOULD KNOW THAT SOLUDO CAME FROM THE HUMBLIEST BACKGROUNDS; SO HE FEELS THE PULSE, INSPITE OF HIS ACHIEVED POSITIONS AND INFLUENCES. WILL STEER THE SHIP OF THE IGBOMAN BACK TO PRECIOUS PLACE OF PRIDE, TO A SAFE 'BREEZY BEACH', WHERE 'POLITICAL' WAVES WILL HAVE NO FURTHER SAY. LETS GIVE HIM SUPPORT. LETS BACK UP OUR 'MOSES' TO LIBERATE US FROM THESE 'PHARAOHS'. THIS IS THE APPOINTED TIME. SEIZE THE MOMENT.

I wish he is real because that is the kind of intellects we need in Anambra State.

Posted by Azotani Chuks on Nov 22 2009

HE sounds nice and good but i think the scandal of the polymer may slow down the growth of the state if you become the Gov. Left for me, the incumbent Gov should continue because we have experience relatively political peace in Anambra State since Gov Obi assumed Office
