Chukwuma Soludo, the Peoples Democratic Party candidate for the 2010 governorship election in Anambra, has condemned the ongoing arrangement by Governor Peter Obi to conduct local government elections before the governorship poll.
Addressing a PDP forum organised by the party's new caretaker committee, in Awka, on Thursday, Mr. Soludo said ``Obi should rather occupy his time with preparing a handover note in readiness to leave office''.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr. Obi had, on Tuesday, presented a list of the new members of the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission for ratification to members of the state House of Assembly.
Mr. Soludo said the action was a ploy by the governor to mobilise APGA chairmanship hopefuls to garner support for him.
He said: ``Obi did not conduct the election when he was a year in office, neither did he conduct it when he clocked two years. Is it now that he has less than three months to go that he will do it?
The former CBN governor also spoke to party members on why he seeks to govern the state.
"I was somewhere and people were arguing that I should have gone to UN, World Bank or anywhere else, rather than coming to mess myself up with Anambra politics.
``I told them that if Jesus could come down and be messed up for man to gain salvation, why would I, a mere human being not accept it.
``My dream to turn Anambra to Dubai or Taiwan of Nigeria and Africa is real. We must employ our money to do the right thing for our people."
