German firm builds medical centre in Adamawa

The Adamawa State Government and a German consortium Mmm Group have signed an agreement for the construction of a befitting surgical unit and a diagnostic centre at the Yola Specialist Hospital.

The project, which is aimed at improving health service delivery of the state to meet international standard, is to cost N1.3 billion. The secretary to the Adamawa State government, Kobis Ari signed on behalf of the state government while Hans George Drovin signed for the German firm. Mr. Ari enumerated the various programmes initiated by the state government which he said were aimed at improving the health and well being of its people.

The list includes procurement of emergency ambulances, provision of free medicare for all pregnant women, children and accident victims; the construction of new health facilities and rehabilitation of existing ones, training of medical personnel as well as implementation of a new salary structure for medical and health workers in the state.

The governor, Murtala Nyako described the ceremony as another milestone in the health sector reform programme of his administration. He said the project, when completed, will provide standard, affordable and efficient medical services to all Adamawa indigenes, as well as those from neighbouring states and the Cameroon republic.

The medical facility, he further explained, will save many from the trauma often associated with huge financial burden involved with overseas medical treatment.
