Five armed robbery suspects and an ammunition dealer Segun Ade, have been arrested by the Kogi Police Command in its efforts to rid the state of criminals.

The suspects were paraded before journalists in Lokoja on Wednesday.

The command's spokesperson, Abubakar Mohammed (ASP), said the suspects were arrested from their hideout in Adogo, Ajaokuta Local Government Area following a tip-off.

Mr. Mohammed described the suspects as a gang of "notorious armed robbers disturbing motorists on the highways day and night".

He said the arms dealer was also arrested in Kabba, where he had been operating, selling locally-made guns and ammunition to criminals.

In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria, the suspects confessed robbing people on the highways but said they were driven to the act by the harsh economic conditions.

Mr. Mohammed said the matter was still being investigated, adding that the suspects would be arraigned in court after the investigation.
