Nigeria to head UN Security Council

The United Nation’s Security Council has announced that Nigeria will hold the rotating presidency of the council for the month of July, 2010. This was contained in a UN document, titled, “Security Council Membership: Effective January 2010”, which was circulated to the 192-UN member states. China will hold the presidency in January, while France will hold the position in February. Other countries that will hold the presidency of the council next year include, Gabon (March), Japan (April), Lebanon (May), Mexico (June), Russia (August), Turkey (September), and Uganda in October.

UK and the U.S. will preside over the council in November and December, respectively.
