Attorney General of the Federation, Michael Aondoakaa has defended his recent trip to the United Kingdom. It had been speculated that his presence in London last Wednesday was to enable him meet with the London Metropolitan Police regarding the money laundering charges recently filed against the former Governor of Delta State, James Ibori.

A statement issued by Aondoakaa in Abuja said “I went to meet with the Home Secretary and not the Metropolitan Police. It would be mischievous to expect that the office of the Attorney General of the Federation will go low to go and discuss with the Met Police.”

The Attorney General also denied making attempts to block the EFCC’s response to the request by the London Met to provide 25 witnesses for the trial involving Mr. Ibori’s sister, his personal assistant and his alleged mistress. The trial commenced on Monday at a London Southwark Crown Court.

On his own part, Mr. Ibori, speaking through his media assistant, Tony Eluemunor said that the counsel to the accused persons will “use the opportunity to prove misconduct on the part of both the Police and the Crown Prosecution.”
