The late Gani Fawehinimi, human rights lawyer and activist, had three requests before he died, according to a family member.

1. He requested that no state funds be used in association with his burial

2. He asked for a public burial — one where the community could be involved

3. He requested to be buried in a transparent casket

What is lost just got burst; thus spilled in the air for all the world to see, hear, build and become; the actions thought unimaginable and the impossible. Lost is hidden treasure, Sought for great measure. The end of Lost is Found.

He was radical to the very end. He never kept quiet in the face of evil. He always spoke out against wrongs in the society no matter who was at the receiving end. May his soul find rest.

He probably requested for a transparent casket to further reinforce his belief (even in death) for transparency, honesty, fairness and equity in governance. Gani, R.I.P.

Thank you Gani..Thank you Gani..Thank you Gani...when it was too dangerous to associate with your great names while on Campus.I did that at my own RISK during Abacha regime, earned myself 'Gani Jnr' title and later got myself and others expelled, you sent down lawyers to argue our case for fair hearing and pardon.(I later opted for out of court settlement with the University 'kangaroo' PANEL of Abacha years)

Chief Gani Fanwenihimi deserves national holiday to give the poor masses that he fought for to the very last minutes of his life, the opportunity to mourn him. But if this Govt. refuses to give him this honour now, posterity will do it some day.

Gani Fawehinmi is a name i grew up to know as meaning "for-the-peolple". His enduring struggle for justice, equality and the much desired change is what defined this great icon. Gani, your persistently echoed voice for a common course and your passion for fatherland remains exemplary. We have kept that with us because in it ,is the template for the truly rebranded Nigeria that you have always wanted. Even as we all mourn with heavy hearts,we are convinced that a thousand of your kind are already borne ...the tourch still burns alive! We salute you,"the peoples advocate"

SWEET PLEASURE COMES AFTER PAIN. BRAVE WARRIOR THIS IS THE ONLY REST THAT YOU CAN HAVE IN PEACE. IF YOU HAD A CHANCE YOU WILL STILL TURN IT DOWN.

Posted by Agbons on Sep 08 2009

What a man! You fought a dogged fight to liberate a benighted nation of ours. You fought to achieve a democratic nation and continued the fight to enshrine a true democratic system that will ensure justice, equity and fairness. Your labour surely will not be in vain. Adieu papa!!!

I guess he has fulfilled his calling on earth but can only describe him as an Ardent Patriotic Nigerian. Adieu!!!

Posted by simeon ehiwe on Sep 08 2009

Tears flowed freely as i read of his battle with cancer and the one cancerous style of destroying the very foundation upon which our country ought to stand. Growing to know and appreciate you as a voice of the voiceless amongst us. Alas! Adieu! You are one living legend even in death and we love you all the way papa. No president(s) can replace you and others like you who have a passion for eradicating poverty and diseases unless they do the Nigeria great.

We've lost a rare gem, an iconic collossus. Farewell Gani. His wishes should be adhered to strictly or ELSE....

Gani's death is very painful, May his soul rest in perfect peace.

Posted by amechi on Sep 09 2009

Such is the Will of God and such is the irreversible incidence of nature. It is still a puzzle why, even when we know that death is an inevitable end, we still shudder at the news of the death of a loved one. It is perhaps because we constantly, and naively too, see death as a commonplace phenomenon applicable only to distant and unknown people, but not applicable to those around us. May his gentle soul rest in perfect peace.

Gani was a good man who devoted his time for the populace to fight the evil he has seen in governance. The evil of corruption, greed, avarice and vain glory that existed withn the domain of rulership in this country. He tried his best, but God has the final answer. All those that troubled Israel, will not go unpunished.Let him be assured of this as he transits beyond. Adieu! Great GANI FOR THE MASSES.
