Despite the hype, the Tetmosol Girl Power: What a Feeling Tour, took place on August 22, at the Onikan Stadium, Lagos, in front of a sparse crowd.
The headline acts: Ashionye, Mo’Cheddah, Nikki Laoye, BB, and Nyore, were preceded by a few up and coming acts.
Female comedienne, Mandy played host and tried to bring life to the somewhat dull event with her repertoire of jokes.
Christened the baby of the Girl Power crew, Mo’Cheddah was first on stage, and did she have a hard time trying to move the crowd. Only with the hook on the hit single “The Finest (Won Beri)” by Knighthouse did she get some positive crowd response.
Next up was Nyore, whose stage craft and mastery of Patois endeared her to the crowd. Female comedienne and rapper, BB, was at her best as well, captivating the kids more especially with a medley of nursery rhymes. Hip Hop World Award nominee, Nikki Laoye, was next, accompanied by backup singers. Her performance was applauded especially when she displayed her versatility as a rapper on the track “Taka Sufe (Snap and Whistle)” accompanied by brothers Rap2sai and Xblaze.
The main attraction, Ashionye, was introduced as Nigeria’s Beyonce and after some razzmatazz, she came on stage accompanied by some scantily clad dancers. It was pretty evident at that point that people were already exhausted after Laoye’s breathtaking set. However, after some wriggling and twisting by her dancers, she got some positive responses.
Although dubbed Girl Power, the concert was short of real energy and vibrance.
For medical student, Bose Sunday-Ewuk, however, driving home in a Kia Picanto won in the raffle draw must have made her night.
