About 2,000 Nigerians living illegally in Brazil without proper documentation before February 9, 2009, are to benefit from an amnesty offer announced by the Brazilian government.

The Nigerian Ambassador to Brazil, Kayode Garrick, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Brasilia.

The Brazilian government had recently decided to pardon all foreign nationals who entered the country through "the back doors."
Mr. Garrick, however, said that over 2,000 Nigerian potential beneficiaries of the Amnesty proclamation were among the 5,000 Nigerians currently living in the country.
