Nigerian female rapper B.O.U.Q.U.I, launched her newest album ‘Redefinition’ amidst pomp and pageantry at the grand ball room, Eko Hotel and Towers Lagos, July 5. The event witnessed a gathering of quite a number of showbiz personalities like Blackky, Yeni Kuti, Alariwo, Mike Aremu and Roof Top Mc’s amongst many others.
As is a common occurrence at many social events in Nigeria, the African time factor came to play - the 3pm event took off at 7pm. Opening the show was a performance by Omolara, an up and coming female R&B gospel singer, who sang ‘With My Eyes Closed’. Cobhams accompanied her on the keyboard.
Kamal (host of the Zain’s Don’t Forget the Lyrics) anchored the event and almost bored the audience with his attempt at jokes but funny man Koffi saved the day! Roof Top Mc gave an electrifying performance which saw everyone on their feet, especially when they jumped into the crowd.
After a series of performances by guest artistes, the star of the night B.O.U.Q.U.I was ushered up stage amidst ‘effizie’- pyrotechnics and sound effects - looking every bit a tomboy in a white shirt, black jeans and loafers to match.
The rapper let the crowd into a feel of what the album had to offer describing it as potpourri of different flavours which will appeal to just about everyone. She performed some of the tracks on the album and got the audience dancing and singing along.
As the event drew to a close at 9pm, the rapper introduced her mother to the crowd while also recognising her friends.
From the look on the faces of the audience it was pretty obvious that they all enjoyed the evening, but as to whether or not the album will be received with open hands by the outside world, only time will tell.
