FIFA said in Johannesburg on Thursday that it would hold talks with trade union leaders on the looming nationwide strike in South Africa.

There are fears that the strike could lead to delays in completing work on the 2010 World Cup sites including hospitals, roads and high-speed train across the country.

South Africa's National Union of Mineworkers warned this week that its members would down tools next week if they were not given a 13 per cent wage increase.

The South Africa 2010 World Cup Board, which includes several cabinet ministers as well as SAFA and FIFA representatives, held a de-briefing session on Thursday in Johannesburg.

The FIFA World Cup's organising body said there was a lot of work to be done ahead of next year's tournament.

FIFA Secretary-General Jerome Valke said that ``now we are under pressure because the World Cup is in 11 months and so there is no time to think twice.
