The Group Managing Director of the Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation , Mohammed Barkindo, said in Kaduna on Thursday that its Renewable Energy Division has developed three programmes for the take-off of the bio-fuels industry.

"The programmes are the bio-fuels policy, the seeding programme, and the industry programme," he said.

The corporation's boss said this at the graduation of the first batch of the beneficiaries of Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company's Youth Empowerment and Skills Acquisition Programme for Host Communities.

Mr. Barkindo, who was represented by Olayinka Agoro, NNPC's Group General Manager (Refining and Petrochemicals), said that the bio-fuels policy and incentives documents had since been approved and gazetted by the Federal Government.

He said that seven NNPC-driven bio-fuels projects were being developed, while feasibility studies had been completed on five ethanol projects which were found to be commercially viable.

Barkindo also said that feasibility studies on the bio-diesel project had been completed, while the results showed that the project was viable.

He listed the Nigerian Content Policy, the Gas Master Plan and Gas Monetisation Programme as the other government initiatives being handled by NNPC.
