Premier League outfit Stoke City are ready to raid Championship club Newcastle United for Obafemi Martins.

Apparently, the Potters will offer the Magpies £5 million in the hope of landing the 24-year-old during the close-season.

It is claimed that the Staffordshire-based side have already made contact with the Toon with regard to the 5ft 7in striker's availability this summer.

It is thought to be extremely likely that Newcastle will cash-in on the 24-time capped Nigeria international, who has scored 13 goals for the Super Eagles, as the Magpies look to balance the books following their relegation from England's top-flight.

However, Stoke may face competition from the likes of Aston Villa, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur for the former Inter star, who has previously been linked with Serie A team Fiorentina and Turkish giants Besiktas.

Martins has scored 35 goals in 104 first-team appearances for Newcastle United.
