Interested in reinventing your appearance? Why not take a cue from the past by recreating one of your favourite looks from previous decades, with the following tips:
'50s Glam
The '50s and earlier periods were all about glamour: matte foundation and matte red lips. To re-create this look you'll need a matte foundation, medium brown eye shadow (darker than your natural shade), black kohl eyeliner, and red lipstick.
Start by covering up skin imperfections with a concealer, coat your face with foundation and finish off with powder. Then, use a brown liner to fill in the corners of your eyebrows for a subtly pronounced brow, and apply the brown eye shadow on the lower region of your eyelid.
Finish by lining your eyes with black kohl eyeliner, and apply red lipstick.
'70s Disco
The makeup of this era focused primarily on the eyes, while downplaying other features. To make this look modern, you'll need exotic eye shadows like green or electric blue, eyelash extensions, black eyeliner, and a very light pink or coral lip-gloss.
Start by applying foundation, next powder foundation for a matte look. Since the eyes are the major focus, extend them with fake lashes. Highlight the eyebrow bone by applying a bronzer on it, as well as on the inner rim of the eyes.
Create a smoky eye by lining the top of your lashes and slightly smudging them upwards, then apply a soft blue or green eye shadow starting from the inner corners of the eyes and extending out. Finally, swipe your top and bottom eyelashes with black mascara, and finish up the '70s look by applying a light pink, or coral lip-gloss.
'80s High Volume
Makeup in the 80's was all about having a colourful face. Recreate this look by simply using a little bit of everything. First start by selecting hues that help set the tone for the rest of your face. Rich ebony complexions have cool undertones, so shades like blue or deep purple help emphasise the eyes, while plum and burgundy highlight the lips.
For those with warm undertones, colours like green and brown work best to enhance the eyes, while coffee and caramel accentuate the lips. Finally, play up the cheeks by applying any blush with a hint of gold shimmer.
