From the runways of Lagos and Milan, to the screaming auditoria of Madison Square Garden and Abuja's International Conference Centre, rock stars and supermodels have been worshipped by adoring fans.
The jetset lives of supermodels almost make it impossible for them to find a suitable, significant other, while rock stars are constantly surrounded by groupies and band aides, making it equally hard to decipher reality from illusion due to the constant adoration.
It's no surprise that these two species of superstar are naturally drawn to each other, sometimes with ‘Beauty and the Beast' parallels. Rock stars and supermodels complement each other in a weird way and while some have found a way to work despite the trials and tribulations, there have been a few head scratching moments as well. Here they are:
Jerry Hall and Sir Mick Jagger
Rock stars do not get any bigger or better than the front man of the greatest rock band in the world, the Rolling Stones. His stage personae, and vibrant, sexual energy are legendary and it's no wonder, women of all ages ache to be one of Mick Jagger's many conquests.
Poor old Mick was a goner for Dallas-born beauty Jerry Hall, who stands at an impressive 6-feet with a mass of blonde hair. After meeting each other at a dinner party in Manhattan, the model called off her engagement to Roxy music star Bryan Ferry, and began frequenting hotspots such as Studio 54 with Jagger.
After several children together, the couple got married in 1990, in an unofficial Balinese ceremony. Their fourth and last child together was born two years before his parents' 1999 marriage annulment. Despite many turbulent years, the couple managed to stay together for 21 years! The Daily Mail once quoted the leggy model as saying that she "was co-dependent on him" and he was addicted to affairs and she was addicted to loving him.
Isio Wanogho and Michael Stephens a.k.a Ruggedman:
Nigeria's rap impresario Ruggedman burst onto the music scene earlier in the millennium with a swag and delivery that had never been seen in the Nigerian rap game. Like a true alpha, Ruggedman staked his claim on the spot. While rhyming and spitting lyrics might seem the forte the Lagos State University graduate, the rap man does have a softer side supposedly in the person of model and student Isio Wanogho.
Unlike her contemporaries, this 5ft7" gal is not one to court the limelight. Like a true, model, the camera finds its way to her, strutting her stuff on the runways of Abuja and Lagos, for the likes of Remi Lagos and Tiffany Amber.
The pair, according to a gossip blogspot, met in 2008 at Isio's University of Lagos hostel while Ruggedy Baba was scouting models for a video shoot. Technically, Ruggedman isn't a rock star but he's famous and he rocks in his latest ‘Bangin' video and so makes our cut.
Iman and David Bowie:
There are supermodels and there is Iman. One of the most recognisable faces ever to grace the catwalks, Iman is a true force of nature. Born in Mogadishu, Somalia, she has been described by the late great Yves Saint Laurent as his dream woman.
Fluent in five languages, this truly African goddess is married to rock chameleon David Bowie and they have a daughter, Alexandria Zahra "Lexi" Jones, born in 2000. As the CEO of IMAN beauty range, and a rock and roll inductee, Iman and old Ziggy Stardust set a trail for all others to follow having been happily married since 1992.
Heidi Klum and Seal:
The face, the voice, the body, three things that encapsulate this high flying couple: German born Heidi Klum and Grammy winner Seal. These two are surely a force of nature when they appear on any red carpet. Mogul, mother, reality show host (Project Runway and Germany's Next Topmodel), Heidi Klum gives new meaning to the word ‘Super Model'.
Her significant other, Seal, who is of Nigerian parentage, is a Grammy award-winning recording artist with hit songs like ‘Crazy', and ‘Kiss from Rose'.
The couple's family has been labelled the ‘patchwork family,' causing Klum to respond with "I'm not white, I'm a shade of brown ... we're all different shades and we came together and we all love each other. It's actually kind of nice to have a ‘patchwork family.' " They have been married since 2005 and have two sons together.
Klum's daughter from a previous relationship has been adopted by Seal, and they are expecting a fourth child later in the year. These two, it seems, are destined to be tighter for the long haul. The symbiosis is undeniable between rocks and hot, skinny chicks. We don't mind. How could we - with all those good looks and all that charm flying around?
