Nigeria has become a failed states where everybody is a law unto themselves. This story needed to be written but for richer material try not paying a bribe and visiting the Police Station and then you will see that the Police Force in Nigeria is filled with poverty-stricken individuals who have learnt to harvest naira from the highways to take care of their families. It is the same in every government agency. Hundreds of thousands of people living by their wits in nation where practically the only law is the law of making money for oneself and ones people.

One is caught between sympathy and disdain for these otherwise average Nigerians who are bequeathed with hopeless poverty and weapons and sent out to make the fortunes of others. That is, until you see them in action at police stations and horrified disgust wins out. The senseless violence they indulge in must spring from depths of frustration most people can never understand. Of course the IG knows about this; where else does the pyramid of corruption end? And why would "elected" officials care? They don't travel these roads and cannot risk being arrested (falsely or genuinely) for corruption and other charges to end up as unappreciated martyrs. One day, though. One day...
