A Path of Me, an online exhibition of photographs to celebrate Nigeria's 49th Independence anniversary has opened on the travel website, journeysaroundnigeria.net.

The virtual exhibition which comprises 49 photographs taken in 12 state capitals in southern Nigeria will run throughout October.

The photographs on display are from travel writer, Pelu Awofeso's collection from his ongoing ‘Beautiful Underbelly' tour of Nigeria. The road trip will take him around the country's 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

Apart from highlighting the unique characters of the selected cities, A Path of Me also aims to showcase the striking little local gems that visitors will find unforgettable.

Everyday people, monuments, customs, local snacks, transportation and road signs are some of the categories of photographs visitors will see on the site.

The organiser, Pelu Awofeso says, "This exhibition is the first in a continuing series and it shows just a tiny fraction of Nigeria's unique assets as an emerging (but potentially viable) tourist destination".

He hopes that "this encounter with a beautiful Nigeria in cyberspace will inspire Nigerians and non-Nigerians alike to explore the country-for fun and for knowledge.
